Auston's POV:

I walked into ACC ready for the game. Headphones in and pumping up for the game. I walked into the locker room and took a seat in my stall getting ready slowly but surely. I went to grab my jock before I was ripped around and pushed down into a sitting position in my stall. A weird looking Mitch and Morgan were staring at me. "Can I help you two?"

They both kneeled in front of me and looked at each other. Mitch looked back at me then back to Morgan "you wanna ask him first?"

Morgan nodded and looked at me. "Please tell me you aren't dating that chick?"

I gave Morgan a confused look and he pulled his phone out and showed me a photo of Brynn. "Her. You aren't dating her are you?"

I laughed. "No I'm not. Morgan I don't even know the girl."

He narrowed his eyes at me. "Alright. Whatever you say."

He and Mitch got up to leave me in my own thoughts as I continued to get ready. I leaned back into my locker and watched them both get ready and joke around with each other.

-after the game

"Hard-fought win boys. I'm proud of you. Great offense, great defense, great puck handling, good turnover ratio, it was a good night in all senses of the game. Damn good job. Enjoy it!"

Coach walked out of the locker room and I quickly undressed and threw on my suit. I went through my interviews saying the same response each time almost like a robot. I walked out of the locker room and down the long hallway, stopping to take pictures of with fans before I heard a familiar voice giving off an interview. "Yes Kurt, a very much needed win to get momentum back on the Maple Leafs side heading into the regular season series starter matchup against the Washington Capitals. Here comes one of the stars right now. Excuse me Mr. Matthews?"

I turned and smiled at Brynn as she gave me a small grin. "Could you spare a moment?"

"Anything for you." I said loud enough for only her to here. She turned to her cameraman and waved him closer to me. She put her hand on my upper arm as her heels brought her to just under my chin, and she waited for the cameraman's cue. He counted her in and she began her interview with me. "Kurt I am here with Maple Leafs rising star Auston Matthews. Now Auston, how did it feel to get this first home win under your belt?"

She turned to me and gave me a look that just about made me melt. Pull it together Auston. Be professional. "Well I feel like we just played the puck well. We gave up our lead there for a while and started to get sloppy but coach just told us during the intermissions just to continue to play how we had started the game and we will win."

She smiled at me and asked another question. "Your next game involves going against the all too familiar Washington Capitals. Do you think this might be some type of revenge from the playoffs last year if you pull off a win?"

I chuckled. "Honestly, I'm not really thinking about last year. The past is the past. This is a new year with a new group of guys and some of the old guys. I just really happy we started off so well and I hope we continue."

She nodded her head. "Thank you so much for your time Auston. Go out and enjoy this win!"

I smiled down at her. "Thank you! I appreciate it."

The cameraman looked at her signaling that he got everything and he turned to walk off. "You failed to mention that you do interviews for the Maple Leafs when we met."

She giggled and looked up to me. "Well I usually don't throw out my profession until the guy has asked for a first date."

I gave her a smirk and turned towards her fully. "Well then. Ms. Valentine, can I perhaps take you on a date?"

She looked surprised and laughed. "What about your girlfriend?"

"She isn't my girlfriend. We had something back in Arizona but we don't anymore."

She seemed slightly convinced and I pulled out my phone and showed her all my messages and contacts. "See. No Jordyn in sight. I don't even talk to her anymore."

She laughed at my eagerness and smiled. "Okay then matthews. You got yourself a date. Shall we say tomorrow at 7?"

I smiled at her and she leaned in once again to leave a kiss on my cheek.

"Bye Auston!"
