"What is on the agenda for today?" I asked Sorin.

"How about you get dressed so we can go in search of the records?" He flashed me his perfect smile.

"You found out where to go?" I asked excitedly.

"We will leave when you are ready."

I raced up to my room and changed in record time, threw my hair into low braids, and sprinted back downstairs, skidding to a stop in front of Sorin. "What are you standing around for soldier? Move out!"

He chuckled at me and handed me a black military vest, the same as his, and filled the pockets with several different items.

We shifted instantly and ended up somewhere pitch black. It was very un-nerving. I couldn't see anything around me. The air was fresh, but strangely, had no scent. There was a faint humming noise that I couldn't identify. "Where are we?" I asked nervously.

"I am told it is called The Dark Lands."

"That's original, I could have named it that," I snickered. "Now what do we do?"

Sorin pulled out a scroll from his vest pocket and cracked a flare, lighting up the immediate area. On the scroll was a rubbing of ancient runes.

Sorin explained that it translated into:

  Give what cannot be given

  Believe what cannot be believed

  Take what cannot be taken

  Trust what cannot be trusted

  Turn what cannot be turned

"That's it? What the hell does that mean?" I looked at Sorin, praying he had some idea.

  "I have no idea."

Great, I thought, we are so screwed.

At first I assumed we were outside, but the more I took in, the more I realized we were in some sort of massive cavern. I pulled a flare out of my pocket and cracked it. I found the wall of the cavern and proceeded to examine every inch of it as I walked along.

"What are you looking for?" Sorin called to me.

"Anything. I don't know. My spidey sense is telling there must be something here. Why else would this be the place?" I explained.

"Okay, I will check this end," he said and left a flare to mark where he started.

Always the smart guy I smiled to myself and copied him.

I placed another flare between my teeth and felt along the stone walls for any crevices or holes; I had no idea what I might find.

"Do not put that in your mouth!" Sorin yelled scornfully across to me.

"I get that it's not the safest method, but I wanted to use both of my hands."

"There are illumination sticks in your pocket that are far less likely to explode." He explained. I reached into my vest pocket and pulled out a large glow stick.

"Why didn't you use that to begin with?" I asked with a smirk.

"They do not last as long. So do not waste them." He returned to his side of the cavern.

When I reached Sorin's starting point, something dawned on me.

"Did you notice this place has no moisture?" I asked Sorin
