United Nations:

Establishment Date: October 24, 1945

Bond: Alliance, Council

Governing System: Federal Republic

The new United Nations, encompassing a total of six nations, is currently one of the nine major factions in the world. Similar to the European Union, the United Nations morphed from an intergovernmental organization to a federal republic due to the changing tides of the political situation on Earth.  With all six countries being separated from each other by far distances, the group chose Taiwan as where the central government will be located at, as it had the most UNSC defenses installed. The Republic's central government controls most of the overarching positions and regulations, but the six nations themselves still retain the ability to govern their own territories and impose laws that act as add-ons to the standard template created by the central government. The central government consists of the Parliament, the Justices of the World, the President, the Council of Six, and the United Military Command. The Parliament is technically made up of sixty-one members, ten from each nation, and one extra seat for the President, as that position is for a Parliament member elected by a majority of the Parliament every four years. The purpose of the Parliament is for the government to pass any bills or laws they want. Passing a law only requires a majority in the legislature. However, the President, who leads the Parliament and retains the official title as the United Nation's leader, holds the ability to veto any bills that the Parliament tries to pass, meaning that the legislators would need to obtain a two-thirds majority in order to force it past the President. The Council of Six consists of the six heads of state from the United Nations. These six members usually meet to discuss current affairs with one another and draft up new laws for each of their own respective nation. The council has the ability to pass minor laws and bills without the consent of the President or the Parliament, but any major changes or events would require the help of either the President or the Parliament. Additionally, the Justices of the World, a group of nine judges elected by the Council of Six with the consent of the President, watches over the political movement of the other branches. The Justices have the ability to revoke any laws that they deem to have violated the standard-template-laws created at the formation of the United Nations. Last but not least, the United Military Command, a branch in charge of the military and a major balancing factor against the Parliament, President, and the Council of Six. The Command, which consists of twenty-five members including a president that leads the branch, is in charge of military deployment and strategy planning. The Command has almost full control over the military during peacetime but will relinquish the commander-in-chief position to the Parliament President, who will work with the Command's president during wartime. However, the United Military Command and its president usually retain full power over the military even during wartime, as Parliament and the official President only intervene when diplomatic relations come into play during a war.

History: The United Nations, once encompassing the whole world, is now down to six countries. With most of the world belonging to different factions, the United Nations finds itself more like a faction, not a gathering. Immediately after the first contact with the Unknowns, many nations decided to take matters into their own hands and withdrew from the United Nations, as the organization was in complete disarray. Knowing that the Chinese wanted to control the whole Korean Peninsula, South Korea, with the help of the UNSC, brokered a deal with the North Koreans. Rumors from diplomats say that a group of assassins from the UNSC eliminated Kim Jong Un and placed a fake copy of the original dictator in his place in order for North Korea to agree to merge together with South Korea. Whatever happened in that backdoor deal resulted in the creation of the United Korean Peninsula with its capital based in Seoul. The Chinese Federation, who were mustering up an invasion on the Korean Peninsula, was furious that such deal had happened without their knowledge and declared war on the United Korean Peninsula. However, due to South Korea being prior to the formation of the USNA, American and UN troops stationed in South Korea, backed by a squadron of UNSC capital ships, were able to deter China's advancement. The new nation quickly aligned itself with Japan, who also worried about a Chinese invasion. Australia and New Zealand, fearful of being left out, decided to join the two Asian countries. Israel, surrounded by Muslim-dominated nations, also joined the group in order to keep itself aligned with some sort of faction. The move from Israel seemed absurd at the time, as no other nations in the faction had the ability to help the middle-east country if it was under attack. However, this move paid off when the United Nations was backed by the UNSC and the USNA, causing its military strength and technology to advance and increase massively. These five factions decided to create the new United Nations, a federal republic. At the same time, the Chinese Federation set their sights on Taiwan, a country that was still not completely independent but prospered with the help of the UNSC. The Chinese Federation was about to launch an invasion force into Taiwan when MAC rounds fired from the shores of Taiwan built by the UNSC help destroy the Chinese forces. UNSC forces were based in Taiwan because of a UNSC-sponsored hibernation facility was located in Taipei the fact that the UNSC has two major bases in Taiwanese territory. After its disastrous invasion, the Chinese Federation, although reluctantly, officially recognized Taiwan as an independent country. With that statement announced, other nations around the world joined in as Taiwan was finally recognized by most nations in the world. The democratic and independent island quickly joined the United Nations and established itself as the leading force with the help of UNSC forces based in its territory. With the withdrawal of more than a hundred fifty countries, the United Nations has only six members remaining: Taiwan, Japan, United Korean Peninsula, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, and South Africa. A large injection of UNSC technology meant that the six nations were able to gain massive ground in technology and weaponry.
