I had just gotten into New York City when I noticed an old abandoned building all by itself. For some reason it was calling to me and I listened to it. I know it's bad but maybe I could stay there until I can get a job, it looks very stable. I walked up to it and the sign said "CAUTION, DO NOT ENTER, DANGER" I didn't listen to the sign and walked in, it smelled like dust and... fire? Why does it smell like fire?

I walk deeper into the house and I notice clothing on the floor and then I get tackled to the floor. It was a boy who looked slightly older than me, maybe about 17 or 18. He had dark brown hair and brown eyes and he had a little stubble on his chin, as if he hasn't shaved in days. "Who are you and what do you want" he yelled in my face.

"I-I'm Emily, I don't have much money or a place to stay, and I thought maybe I can sleep here for a couple of days, but if you are liv-" he blocked my mouth, "You talk to much, but, since you have no where to stay, you can stay here for a couple of days." I smiled into his hand and he let go of me and helped me up.

"I'm Gavin, by the way." He took me by my hand and pulled me into another room with two more people in it. There was a girl with short black hair that had a blue streak in it and piercings and a boy with blond hair and no piercings. "Emily, this is Zoe and James, Zoe, James, this is Emily" Gavin said. I looked up at them and smiled. James smiled back but I got a look of disgust from Zoe. Does she not like me? How can she not like me? She doesn't even know me.

"So Emily, tell us about yourself" James said. His voice was smooth but slightly deep. "Well, what do you want to know"? He smiled again, it was a nice smile. "Why are you here, why aren't you with your family"? I looked at him with a blank expression and said "my step Mom abused me and I believe she killed my father, and she locked me in the basement so I texted my friend to help me and I came here." James had a soft expression as of he was pitying me, Gavin was looking at me in a weird way, and Zoe scoffed. "Why don't we tell each other about ourselves" Gavin said. James agreed and he started.

"When I was younger maybe about 7 or 8 my family didn't want me and one day I went outside to play and when I came back, no one was there. I waited for days when I realized they weren't coming back." I feel sorry for him, I can't believe his parents left him. I was about to say something when Gavin started telling his story.

"Well, my parents just left me and my brother, and because my brother was young at the time I was the only one to take care of him and he died, I was 9 at the time and then I was taken in the system but I ran away and now the police are looking for me because I am only 16." Zoe scoffed again and Gavin got pissed at that. "WHY DON'T YOU TELL YOUR STORY AND STOP JUDGING EVERYONE!" She looked at him and stood up.

"FINE, YOU WANT TO KNOW MY BACKGROUND, my Mom did drugs, and she abused me, my dad, well he was an alcoholic and he raped me, so I killed him and my mother was furious so she sent me away to a stupid foster home and I've been out here since I was twelve. She doesn't even deserve to be called my mom, she's just a bitch to me" I looked at her with shock. Zoe just looked at me and I saw a single tear fall down her face. Before we can ask anything, she ran out of the room. I hope her life gets better. I hope all of our lives get better.
