"I can't believe we did that to her," Newt first spoke.
"I was the one who didn't lose faith in her when she attacked that guy that shot Thomas. Now I did, but I shouldn't have."
"I'm such a slinthead!" Newt groaned. "Have you seen how she looks at me? She looked at me with such hope and love. I feel like she expects something from me but I wasn't able to give it to her. I failed her." Minho didn't say anything and just sighed. "Do you know what's buggin' worse? She told me that she's only escaped WICKED just so that she could bloody protect me."
"Protect you?" Minho snorted. "From what?"
Before Newt could reply, the gust of wind started to get strong. The clouds started to get dark. Everyone was silent, wondering what was happening.
"What's that!" Minho shouted, jumping to his feet; he pointed at a spot over Thomas's shoulder. There was unmistakable terror on Minho's face.
About thirty feet away from the group, a large section of the desert ground was starting to open. The ground that was opening surrounded the group in one circle. Everyone subconsciously gathered in the middle of the circle, staring at the ground. Surprise and anticipation filled everyone's face as they watched as a huge pod slowly rose up and settle on the ground. There was a loud groaning sound of steel that overpowered the strong wind.
(Y/N) has seen a lot of those things before and so did everyone else around her. It was the place where the Grievers would rest. In the corner of her eye, she saw everyone taking some weapon in their hands. Getting ready to defend themselves. Neither one of them moved toward the pods. There were at least thirty in all.
The screeching metallic sound finally stopped and the wind stopped along with it. (Y/N) squinted to keep the dirt away from her eyes and she saw that Thomas did the same. Despite what was happening, (Y/N)'s eyes were looking for Newt, her promise still lingering in her mind.
She walked towards him and she didn't miss the look of shock when she was right beside him. He looked so ashamed that he couldn't even look at her. (Y/N) wanted to hold his hand and hold it tight but she still feels very ashamed of him. They didn't talk and instead just waited what was go to happen next. Nothing else had moved since the almost alien objects has been revealed. The only sound was of the wind blowing.
(Y/N)'s heart began to quicken since she thought that maybe there were Grievers inside. She might've known what they are and what they do but unlike everyone else around her, she's never faced one. She's not sure how she'd react when she does. If she'll be with her friends and fight, or flee. She knows of herself as a brave girl, but Grievers are somethings that just gives her nightmares.
Both (Y/N) and Newt looked at Thomas and Teresa. She knows that they can talk telepathically and are probably talking right now. Thoughts swarmed (Y/N)'s mind on what could happen next. She was too lost in them that she didn't notice Minho right beside her and Newt was holding her hand. She looked at her hand engulfed in his. She didn't realize that she was staring at their entwined hands until she heard Thomas and Minho talking.
"So what do we do?" Minho asked Thomas. (Y/N) didn't miss the annoyed look he gave Teresa.
"If those things have bloody Grievers in 'em, we best start gettin' ready to fight the shuck buggers," Newt said gripping on (Y/N)'s hand tighter.
(Y/N) didn't feel as if she was supposed to be part of this conversation, she wanted to slip away but Newt didn't let her. She looked into his eyes that were begging for forgiveness and was asking her to stay. (Y/N) didn't say anything to him and just gave him a short nod. Then she stood right beside him.
