Happy Halloween! October 31st marks a day to celebrate the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and the faithful departed.

Trick-or-treating is a customary celebration for children and adults on Halloween. It involves dressing up in costumes and door knocking, asking for treats with the phrase "trick or treat."

This Halloween you can choose between two prompts.

1. Trick or treat! It's Halloween. You're home alone. The doorbell rings. You open. What happens next?

2. Trick or treat! It's Halloween. You're out trick-or-treating and you knock on a door. Somebody or something opens. What happens next?


You have until 11:59pm GMT on October 31, 2017 to submit your entry.

Your entry should be between 1,000 and 2,000 words. Please post your word count either in the story or the story description. Stories below 1,000 words, and above 2,000 words will be eliminated.

Please provide us a link to your story in the comments below. Stories can be part of an existing contest book, but should not have been previously published for another contest (i.e your entry must have been specifically written for this prompt).
