"Jenny, what's wrong?"
I vaguely hear Ashton's words through the rushing in my ears, but I can't seem to force myself to respond.
"Babe, what's wrong with her?!"
"It's not my fault! I didn't mean to just blurt it out, like that! You know I have no filter!"
"I know, Flower, I know. I'm not blaming you but I need to know what happened!"
"I told her my brother was alive and she- she just froze up!"
"Why would she freeze up because of that?"
"Well, umm the-they were engaged, and I thought that since she knew about weres she'd want to know!"
My vision was going black, my head was spinning, my heart going crazy in my chest.
It can't be true can it? If it wasn't why would he let me believe it, was everything we had a lie?
Does this mean I've felt guilty all this time for something that didn't even happen, is the last thing I think before the darkness completely overtakes me and I fall into oblivion.
I rush to the door, praying it's Joey! It's been days since He'd stormed out after I had upset him last. Stupid, Jennifer messes it up again!
Opening the door I'm met with two officers, a petite woman and a tall woman. Opposites in every way from their hair color to the expressions they wore.
"Jennifer Embers?" The male officer, ask with an uninterested voice and a bored face.
"That's me what can I do for you?" It's a little unnerving having officers show up out of the blue on your doorstep like this.
"I'm officer Hoggin, and this," she gestures to the second officer, "Is my partner Officer Lawrence. I'm afraid we have some bad news, may we come in?" The female officer speaks, her eyes as gentle as her tone.
"Please." I move to the side, making an "enter" motion with my arm.
Sitting down I wait, for whatever news they have for me. Fear and anxiety wrapping around my heart like an octopus' tentacles.
"I'm afraid there's no gentle way of saying this." Officer Hoggin says, looking down before meeting my gaze once more. "I'm afraid there's been an accident."
My heart stops
"I, unlike my partner here, believe it better to tell you the truth without keeping you in suspense." Officer Lawrence says rolling his eyes "You're fiancé, Josiah Adams, was killed."
"It appears he was drunk, and swerved to avoid something, most likely a deer, and hit a tree." Officer Hoggin says softly, glaring at her partner. "I'm so sorry for your loss."
The scene twist and morphes to a graveyard. In front of me, lies Joey's closed casket. They told me his body was to badly damaged from the wreck to have an open viewing. Maybe it's better this way, I won't have to look at the face of the man I loved, knowing I'm responsible for his death.
"Dust to dust, ashes to ashes so is the life of a man." With that the coffin begins to lower into the earth.
I still love you Joey. I'm so, so, sorry!
Opening my eyes, I'm met with the concerned face of Willow.
"Oh thank the moon!" She breaths, before rushing to the door. "She's awake!"
Almost instantly my bed is surrounded by equally worried faces. Even little Bella, tries to climb up before Phil catches her and lifts her up to see me.
"Alpha, don't ever scare me like that again!" Katie says before leaning down and hugging me tightly to her.
I laugh lightly, returning the embrace. "I'm fine really. It was just the shock, I'm fine now."
Just then loud steps thunder before a blur lunges at me, in an instant my legs pull up before shooting out throwing the figure across the room and leaving a dent in the wall. Several growls sound as the wolves around me stand alert and ready for the attack!
A groan comes from the crumpled figure,
"Is that anyway to greet your sister, whose worried sick about you?! Silver, that really hurt!"
Dani. I should have known, "I'm sorry Dani, I didn't realize it was you!" I stand and hurry over to help her up.
She glares at me playfully, "You know, this could damage pack relations..." she taps her chin in mock thoughtfulness. "Unless of course, chocolate was involved in the apology!"
"Not even a small little kiss?"
"I suppose..." Leaning over I kiss her forehead.
"That's not what I meant, and you know it!"
I can't help but laugh when she wipes her forehead and grimaces as if I had laid a snail on her. Just then Ashton comes in, glancing first to the empty bed surrounded by wolves and then to the two of us both now on our feet, and lastly at the dented wall behind us.
"Do I even want to-"
He shakes his head , smiling. "Are you okay, Jen?"
I nod, but in my heart I know it's a lie. In my heart it feels like I'm being stabbed by a half a dozen rusty nails.
"Okay everyone out, Ferry and I need to talk!"
"Ferry?" Ash questions,raising an eyebrow.
"It's her nickname, silly!"
"When we were introduced, Dani thought that Jennifer was to long, and Jenny was to common. So she took the "fer" from the former an the "y" from the later and combined it, Ferry."
He just smiles, shaking his head. Before Dani pushes him out of the room.
"What you you want to talk about?"
"Okay, look! I know blurting it wasn't the best way to do it, it just slipped. You know my ol' bigmouth, but we do need to take about Joey! You deserve to know the truth."
I feel like crying, I'm not sure I want the truth. What if it's worse then the lie?
"It's alright Dani, you don't need to explain anything."
"You're right, Joey does. That's why I called him, while you were out, he should be here any minute!"
"You did what?!"
"Wow, your Alpha voice is lit!"
"Dani, answer me! Why would you do that?!"
"So I could finally tell you the truth."
