The majority of people during flashbacks can not control themselves anymore. They often feel a sense of disassociation, as if they're detached from reality. Here are a few tips to help them:
¤ Tell them that whatever they're seeing is not real, that it's not actually happening again.
¤ Make them remember their surroundings.
¤ Help them take deep slow breathes.
¤ Avoid sudden movements so you wouldn't startle them.
¤ Ask permission to touch them; some might feel trapped which will only agitate them further.
