She knew she couldn't be anywhere near that campground. Not now.

A war was about to start, and there was nothing that Theresa could do. If she got caught, then there would be no way for her to protect herself. She had to hope that Jasper and Monty would be okay.

But she knew they would be.

Of course they would. Wouldn't they?

---

After hours of sitting in the boat, they had managed to lose not only the shore, but also the daylight. It was dark now, and Theresa felt her eyelids start to grow heavy. Her hands were blistered, and her skin burned hot. She sat at the back of the boat with Murphy as she struggled to stay awake.

"Hey, Ahab, why don't you come to the back and get some rest?" Murphy said to Jaha.

Jaha sat at the front of the boat, leaning forward on his arms and his chin resting on top of them. "No, I'm fine," he replied, not bothering to look back at Murphy.

"You know what? Screw this!" the guy named Craig exclaimed. "If you're not going to sleep then you can at least row!"

"Get back on that oar, Craig," Jaha said weakly.

"Or what? We don't even know if we're going in the right direction anymore! We followed that drone across the open ocean! Hell, we deserve to die out here."

"It's okay," Murphy cut in. "I'm good to row."

"Land?" Richards exclaimed. "Land!"

Everyone looked ahead, and Theresa started to smile, seeing a light through the fog. Murphy started to cheer, and others joined in, including Theresa.

"How does an Island of Light sound to you, John?" Jaha asked him cheerfully, a large smile beaming on his face.

Craig and Richards started to row again with smiles on both of their faces. Murphy looked to Theresa, beaming. Then, the boat rocked, and Richards dropped his oar into the water.

"What was that?" Theresa asked.

"Get that oar," Jaha said frantically, pointing to the water.

Richards reached into the water, unable to grab the oar. Then, the boat rocked again, throwing Richard overboard. Murphy quickly reached over the boat to grab Richards, who exclaimed, "There's something in the water! There's something in the water!"

Before anyone could say anything, Richards was dragged through the water, leaving a trail of crimson in his wake. Murphy fell back into the boat, clutching his arm. Theresa looked down and saw a gash running down his forearm to his bicep. All Theresa could do was stare in horror, and she seemed to space out. Craig, on the other hand, was frantically looking around while Jaha was crawling to Murphy's side.

Jaha handed Theresa a strip of cloth. "Here," he said to her, gaining her attention, "Take this and tie off the wound."

"What the hell was that thing?" Murphy asked.

"I don't know," Theresa replied as she started to wrap up Murphy's arm.

"We need to row. Now," Jaha said sternly, searching for the oar.

Then, the boat rocked again, but the boards at the bottom started to break apart. Whatever it was that had just eaten Richards had returned for seconds.
