"Not so fast!" Alison grabs me and puts me behind her, causing my eyebrows to furrow in confusion and surprise.
She holds a gun up, I can tell she's scared but she keeps her body strong and tall.
"Where do you think you're going sweetheart? The party was just getting started," Mike saunters over with a sickening grin on his face.
"Alison. Let's go," I whisper to her but she grunts, "I can do this Emily."
"I know you can but there's a time and place for showing how strong and confident you have become. Here is not that place or time. Please, you just killed someone. I can sense how scared you are. You do not have to do this right now. Not until we clear your head."
She licks her lips but doesn't move. I know she wants to get out of here, by the way her eyes almost water up.
"Mike, let us leave." I order him but he just laughs, "sure! You can leave. But you'll have to get through me first."
I stare at him and he smiles, "you can do it. Right, Emily?" He pats my arm, right on the spot that they branded me, making me cry out in agony, almost collapsing to the ground in searing pain.
I sit on one knee, grunting as I glare up at him but he just look at Alison, "you going to shoot me? Ha! I'd like to see you try."
"Mike leave her alone-" "She says she's so strong. Let's see it. Bring it Princess."
He waves her over and Alison drops the gun, screaming as she goes to kick him. He ducks once, twice, three times, and when she kicks again, he grabs her leg and flips her over until she lands flat on her back.
"Ali," I gasp out and grab the gun before he gets a chance.
He goes for Alison again but she rolls away, jumps up and kicks the back of his knee, grabbing his neck and twisting his arm, causing a scream to erupt from his mouth.
"You little BITCH!" He throws her across the dirt and she yelps, screaming when she hits the floor, hard.
"Don't touch her," I load the gun and stand up with my legs barely supporting me.
It's like hearing Alison in pain sparked this energy in me, this anger. Like a switch went off. Adrenaline rushes through me and Mike walks over to Alison but I aim, then shoot, making him collapse and scream out as he holds his leg in pain.
I run over to Alison and use my better arm to pull her up.
"Let's get out of here."
She gulps, nodding before we get on my bike and I ride us away, pushing through the pain in my arm so that I can get Alison home safe and sound.
When we get to the house, the police are perched outside, watching us go in.
"Nice job idiots," I hiss at them and slam the door behind me.
I get an ice pack for her head and she places it where she landed on it.
"I'm sorry," she whispers after a silent 15 minutes.
"Don't be sorry," I say but she shakes her head, "no. I was so confident about how strong I could be and that I can do anything but...I'm not strong. I'm weak."
"Hey," I move closer to her and take her hand, "you, are not weak. Ali, you're the strongest woman I know. You just killed someone. You have never killed anyone before, your mind couldn't handle it. It's okay to get scared you know. You can beat Mike. I know you can."
