When I woke up it took me a few blinks to realise where I was. I scrubbed at my eyes lazily, glancing around the room, and then to the empty left half of the bed.
I could hear Conner's voice low from outside the room. I rolled over onto my back and closed my eyes, considering going back to sleep. But I was too awake now.
"I don't need your help." Conner's voice got a little louder at that last bit. "Just butt out already."
I wondered if it was his dad that he infamously didn't get along with. Shaking the thought away I glanced around the room. The first thing my eyes landed on was his ipod resting on the floor by his bed, because he was a lazy person who didn't know how to clean up after himself, which made the fact I suddenly wanted to snoop and find out what he listened to through his headphones entirely his fault really...
Throwing on the nearest shirt I could find I leant over to pick up the ipod, grinning when it came to life at ne touch.
I was down to the last few artists when Conner returned to the room. He looked surprised to see me awake. His eyes rolled lazily over the sight of me sitting up and messing with his stuff, before he broke out into a grin. "Morning."
I glanced at the time on the top of the small screen. It was gone 7pm.
I chose not to correct him though.
"You have terrible taste in music." I told him. I still wasn't used to the sound of my voice, so soon after waking up. I was quieter than usual, but Conner didn't seem to have any problem hearing me. He snatched the ipod out of my hands, shoulder bumping into mine as he joined me on his bed.
"Hey, no one was forcing you to listen." He pointed out, glaring light-heartedly at me. I just smiled at him, settling back down into the pillows.
"Terrible music. Incredible bed." I told him curling up a little closer to him.
He smiled tossing his ipod to the floor (so that was how that got there). "You missed out an 'in' in between incredible and bed."
I raised an eyebrow. "Well..."
I frowned. "I'm vetoing any jokes like that so soon after our first time together." He deadpanned. I leant my head back in a laugh.
"Geez, you were fine." I assured him. "Men and their sensitivity about their manhood."
He narrowed his eyes at the word fine. "Just fine?"
I rolled my eyes. "Best I've ever had. Does that make you feel better?"
"Weirdly it kind of does. Yeah." He admitted, and I ended up in another round of laughter.
"You dork." I pulled him down for a kiss. I was smiling too much for it to work that well. Too much teeth, but I didn't even care.
"So I have a question." Conner said pulling back so that he was hovering above me, one hand on either side of my head.
"A little late, but okay." I said, in fake seriousness. "My safe word is GoDaddy."
Conner rolled his eyes, but his shoulders shook with held in laughter.
I raised my eyebrows at him, waiting for him to continue.
"Did you really use to be a cheerleader? Everyone tells me you were, I just can't imagine it."
I rolled my eyes. Of course that was his question. "Are you saying I'm not peppy enough? I was the best damn cheerleader." I told him.
Conner grinned. "Uniform and everything?" He asked, eyes trailing down in an exaggerated manner.
I waited for him to be finished with an 'are you kidding me' face.
"You don't happen to have any pictures do you? For evidence..."
"You are such an idiot." I said in amazement.
"Maybe." He admitted. "But you slept with me, so what does that say about you?"
This. This was the guy.
I like him.
I only really had myself to blame.
"I regret everything." I lied.
Conner narrowed his eyes, before leaning forwards and nipping my neck lightly.
"Ow." I overplayed it. "GoDaddy."
Conner did laugh this time, his whole body shaking above mine. "That is the absolute worst safe word in existence." He said shaking his head in wonderment.
"I can change it to 'webuyanycar'? It's a bit lengthy but it works the same."
"Is all of your safe words taken from terrible adverts?"
"Maybe. How about 'go compare?" I did my best imitation of the go compare man. "I don't think it flows very well into every situation but whatever works for you."
Conner laughed again. "You amaze me. You know that?"
That stunned me enough that I couldn't think of another advert slogan.
A happy bubble expanded in my chest as I pulled him in for another kiss. I didn't have the right words to let him know he amazed me too. That seeing him had somehow become the highlight of my day.
"I still have my old cheerleading outfit." I admitted to him as I pulled away, raising one eyebrow suggestively.
Conner flopped back on to the bed, and heaved in a deep breath. "Fuck." He said.
"That was kind of what I was getting at..." I joked.
Conner shook his head. "I don't know how I'm going to survive you." He said looking up at me, with a dazed expression I hadn't seen him wear before.
"You're doing just fine." I promised.
His phone sounded with a text. Not even checking who it was from he turned his phone upside down and on silent.
I hid my grin into his arm.
