[Gurren Lagann] Simon x Reader: Again

Start from the beginning

Simon didn't bother getting up, too preoccupied by Y/N's words echoing in his head. "I don't care for you. I never did." Why? Why did that hurt him so much? He didn't understand. He wanted to understand why those simple words just crushed him. Even worse was that those words came from his crush. "She never cared?" He muttered to himself before forcing out a small laugh.

"No, of course she didn't. Who the hell cares about a weak coward who does nothing but get in the way? I don't blame her. I'm useless. Completely useless. I might as well just leave the team forever." Then a small thought slipped into his head. "I might as well just die and get it over with." Yeah. That seems better. Everyone would be happier without him around to cause problems. He wouldn't get anyone else killed because of his stupid feelings. Hell, if he hadn't been in the fight, Kamina would still be here, slapping him on the back and influencing everyone with his crazy plans that seemed to have no way of succeeding, but somehow managing to pull them off.

Simon knew what had to be done.

He went to his room, leaving the Core Drill (which he had picked up before leaving) and a paper with messy, almost illegible handwriting on his bed. "Hope at least one person'll be able to make out my shitty handwriting." He muttered before leaving the dark room.

He went to the kitchen, internally hoping it was actually empty for once. Luck seemed to pick his side today, as the entire cafeteria was completely empty. He didn't waste any time grabbing a knife and running out of the room before anyone even saw him. He couldn't let them see him. God only knows how angry they'd be that he was even fucking holding a knife, let alone running with one.

It was beginning to rain when Simon made it to the deck. He started climbing down the ladder to the ground, trying to keep a strong grip on the handles. Eventually his foot slipped, followed by his hands slipping off the ladder, then his other foot. He fell on the ground head first, the thick mud somewhat cushioning his fall. The small knife he had stuffed in his pocket fell out.

He stood up, picking up the knife and running somewhere. He didn't stop until the familiar footsteps of gunman entered his ears. "Shit..." He froze as the steps got louder, and he could hear roughly four sets of footsteps. Then he was in a circle, surrounded. Before any of the gunmen could attack him, they were all destroyed, one by one. "What the...?"

He looked around and saw two familiar gunmen. King Kittan and...Gurren Lagann? He immediately started running, despite the fact it would have been utterly useless to try and get away. "Oh no you don't!" Gurren Lagann was now in front of Simon, both of the cockpits opening to reveal Rossiu and Y/N. "Simon, what the hell were you doing out here at a time like this?! Are you an idiot?!" Y/N yelled. "Why do you care, anyway?! Didn't you say you never cared about me?!" Simon yelled in response. "Simon..."

Rossiu slid out of Gurren, storming over to Simon with a piece of paper crumpled up in his hand. He slapped Simon across the face before holding up the paper, letting it unfold to reveal shoddy handwriting. "Explain this, Simon! Why did you write this?! And why was the Core Drill left with it?! Tell me!" He yelled, angered. Simon didn't think Rossiu could get angry like this, but he wasn't liking it. "I...I..." Simon couldn't get the words out. He couldn't bear to straight up tell his friends he was going to kill himself.

After a few seconds, a small sob escaped his mouth. "I'm sorry..." He muttered. "H-Huh?" Rossiu seemed taken aback. By then, Y/N and Kittan had left their mechas to gather around Simon. "Simon, what do you mean by..?" Y/N noticed something in Simon's pocket and quickly reached to grab it. She pulled it out and gasped.

"Simon...what the hell were you doing with this?!" Rossiu and Kittan looked at the object in her hands. "A knife?! Why'd you have a knife on you?!" Kittan voiced his surprise. "No...wait a minute...you were planning to do something, were you? Rossiu, let me see the letter for a second!" Rossiu complied, handing the paper in his hand over to Y/N. She read it over carefully, her breath hitching in her throat.

"No...Simon, you were coming out here to k-kill yourself...were you?" She looked at him, shaking. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I didn't..." Simon muttered. Y/N dropped both the letter and the knife and wrapped her arms around Simon, hugging him tightly. "Simon! I'm sorry about what I said, I didn't mean it! I was just angry and stupid and just...I'm sorry!" She yelled, burying her face in his shoulder. Simon didn't say a word as he returned the hug, hugging her as tightly as he could, crying hard. "What the hell was I thinking?! A-Aniki wouldn't want me to do that, right? I'm..."

"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! I didn't...I don't..!" He just sobbed loudly, taking bundles of her shirt in his hands. "I'm the one who should be apologizing, Simon! It's not your fault!" The two fell to their knees, the mud under them splashing. "Simon, I didn't mean anything I said that hurt you, I swear. I love you so much, so please don't pull something like this again!"

"Alright. I love you too, Y/N."
