Quick A/N before I start. This story will be mostly written from A third person POV, with a few deviations here and there into Jessie's POV to make the book easier to read.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Unwrapping his last Christmas gift, Jessie's soft Amber eyes lit up as he looked down at the brand new Xbox one that laid in his arms. His jaw dropped open caused by a mixture of disbelief and amazement in his mom. The past couple months had been tough for his family, with his dad being released from his job and his mom having to work twice as much to try and support the family. He'd began to notice the dark circles around her eyes as well as the bags under them caused by sleep deprivation, but decided it was best to keep his mouth shut to prevent any problems.

Gently laying the still packaged console down, Jessie leaped up from the ground and almost slipped on the hardwood floors as he ran over to his mom sitting on the couch nearby. Her half asleep face and slumped figure clearly indicated that she needed more sleep. A tired smile crept across her face as she opened her arms into a warm embrace. "Merry Christmas baby boy..." she said in a quiet, yet loving tone. Jessie quickly hugged her, tears of joy pricking his eyes as he replied with a cheerful tone "thank you so much mom...I love you."

After what seemed like an eternity of the two holding onto each other, Jessie pulled away and took the box to the kitchen. He opened the box there and took a quick peak inside before closing it back up and running upstairs to his room to start hooking everything up.

It took him about half an hour to get everything wired up and running. He remembered a few friends from school who had an Xbox, so he quickly input their gamer tags into the friend search bar and sent friend requests to as many as he could remember. While he waited for them to accept the request, he figured he might as well play some games that he got with the console. As he read the description of all the games, Jessie frowned in slight disappointment since none of the games seemed to fit any of the genres he liked. Eventually he found one that would do, and slid the disc into the console. Loading up the game, he felt butterflies in his stomach, almost drooling over the graphics of the game. 'Oh yeah...I'm definitely gonna have to draw some stuff from here' he thought in his head as the game started with a character creation.

He made his character and instantly loaded into the game, being thrown almost immediately into the first mission as a sort of challenge to get used to the controls on the fly. After finishing the first mission he went to a social space where he was surrounded by other players, almost all of them way higher levels than he was. Eventually after being in the area for a little while, another low level messaged him asking if he wanted to play the story mode together. Surprised by this offering, Jessie didn't respond instantly. After a few minutes he got another message, "hey? Are you afk?" It read. After a slight panic chuckle he quickly messaged back saying that he would go through the story with him.

Even though it was a small message...
Jessie felt like this was the start of a new friendship...

(A/n I do apologize for the short chapter, the next ones will be longer I promise. This is just a sort of intro to the story. Anyways, I hope [this one blows up and is my resurrection from the drought of no publishes.] you guys enjoy the book, and until next time...goodbye~)
