The Talons Fear

Normal Day

It was 6.30 pm and the team was just in the middle of their daily training. They were all gathered in the gym with Kaldur supervising and giving instructions. They were going two against two to improve their fighting skills as a team or in this case as a couple. While Beast Boy and Blue Beetle were sparring with Lagoon Boy and Impulse, the rest of the team was standing by, observing and waiting for it to be their turn.

"Team 2 fail" said the computer as L'gaan and Impulse both fell on the floor.

"Oh c'mon! That was so not crash!" said Impulse and took the offered hand of BB to help him get up.

"Well, what can I say? We just work better together than you two." Blue shrugged. "I'm sure you'll get us next time".

"Team 1 you need to work on improving your attacking speed. You were to slow and therefore a more skilled opponent could stop you before you could even properly start the attack. Team 2 on the other hand will have to work on attacking, defending and your communication skills. You have a lot of work before you but you still have time to learn." Kaldur said facing the four teenagers on their way to him and the rest of the team. "Although I can already see your improvements so...well done"

"Okay, and for the last spar we will have team 1: Kid Flash and Artemis, team 2: Nightwing and Batgirl. You cannot use any weapons or gadgets, only hand to hand like everybody else."

Nightwing and Batgirl high-fived as they all walked in the center in silence and took battling stances. "Don't cry to much when we beat you Wing." said Kid. "Yeah we wouldn't want that right? Because we all know that we're gonna win this thing." joined Artemis and smiled even wider as she heard "Uuuuuu!!!" from some team members watching. Nightwing and Batgirl just shared a look with an amusing smirk on their faces as he said: "Kids just watch and learn."

Then Batgirl and Nightwing moved closer together facing the other two as they stood low almost like cats waiting to take down their next victim. As they took positions the room fell silent. Everyone was waiting to see how this is going to play out. They all knew that all four of them were strong individuals but if you don't work in sync with your partner you can be as strong and capable as you like and still lose. Plus, no one on the team has ever seen Batgirl and Nightwing fight side by side before.

Kid Flash looked at Artemis, they nodded and attacked but were soon met with nothing but air. Wing took on Kid and BG Artemis. Bats were working together perfectly without even looking at each other. Kid moved to kick Wing in the gut but BG blocked the attack while NW caught Arty's hand that was moving towards Batgirl's head. Then he ducked and BG brought her leg over his head and kicked Artemis to the floor. Kid was joining her in a matter of seconds. The bats were standing victoriously over the fallen heroes and smiled wildly. The whole "fight" was over in like twenty seconds.

The winners walked to the rest of the team with smiles still plastered on their faces, followed by the losing team that was currently in the middle of another one of their arguments.

"You could've done maneuver 24 and end it with a right hook instead of blocking his attack." Suggested Nightwing.

"And then you could've done a handspring and move 11." Continued Batgirl. As they made it to Kaldur they were met with shocked faces. The whole Young Justice team stared at them in admiration. There was a silence. "Sooo... What's your criticism Kaldur? I know I was slow and should've seen Kid's attack..." the black and blue vigilante lowered his head in shame but rose back up and looked in Aqualad's eyes. The others shook increased with his statement (like wtf was wrong with him it was fricking amazing!)

"...I-I...Well done. I haven't detected any errors as you moved perfectly in my opinion." He finally gave an answer. "We have witnessed what we all should and will consider goals when it comes to fighting in pairs. They have worked in sync without communicating verbally, predicted each others moves and helped the other with them and most important they finished victoriously in less than 30 seconds. All I can say is...Great job! Now hit the showers, dinner's in 20" he praised and started moving towards the door. The two bats just grinned like crazy, Wing put a hand around BG's torso and pulled her in a side hug while she kissed him on the cheek.

"Wow dude..."

"How the hell?!"

"That was amazing..."

"What's for dinner?" (guess who said that?)

"Can you teach us..."

"Okay, calm down everybody." Barbara smiled. "First of all: no, we can't teach you that. You have to work with somebody for a long time to achieve our level. Second: I think pizza..."

"And third of all" said Night. The grin on his and Babs faces was replaced with a cold smile. The temperature in the room dropped for 10 degrees as they looked at Wally and Artemis "don't ever assume you're going to win. Especially when you're fighting a bat." With that said their faces changed, once more expressing warmness. Some chuckled as they all left the training room and headed to the showers.
