The adoption agency took forever with allowing Forth and I to get a child. We kept our plan a secret, not knowing how our neighbours would react to us raising a child. The only person I told was Apple, and she was excited for us. It took months, but finally we were approved for a child. I couldn't believe it, and Forth was super excited to be a dad and I knew he'd be the best father ever to be child. We spent week getting ready for arrival of the new addition to our family, his name is Morgan, and from the picture, he was absolutely beautiful. Forth was nervous about the coming child, reading everyday parenting book he could in the few weeks we had to prepare. I told him not to worry, but he wouldn't listen.
"I love you", I told him the night before our son would arrive. Forth was in bed reading another book, hi face scrunched up at the tiny print.
"I love you too babe. I can't wait to be a father."
"I know the feeling." I had to pry the book away from him so he'd go to sleep. Wrapped in each other, we stayed awake talking, too excited to sleep. This time tomorrow, we'd be parents.
Forth's POV
Morgan came and was excited to be part of our family. He ran around the house for hours, playing with the dogs and other animals we had in the barn. He was fearless 2 year old, and just an overall happy child. Beam instantly adapted to the role, it was amazing watching him play and interact with Morgan. He tirelessly kept up with the raging tike, and I was astounded by the incredibles feat. I fell in love with Beam even more than before, which I thought wasn't even possible. He was the love of my life, and I couldn't imagine anyone better to spend the rest of my life with. The weeks passed quickly, and I loved seeing Morgan growing with each passing day. My parents watched Morgan while Forth and I were at worked, they couldn't be happier with being grandparents and love him more than anything. Morgan fit perfectly in our family, like he was meant to be with us all along. Beam and I's love for another and Morgan was obvious to anyone who looked, but that didn't stop the stares and whispers when we went out to public. I've always known people here had a problem with gay people, but never bothered Beam and I. But when we started raising Morgan, the discrimination began. Beam didn't care, saying if they're too ignorant to care about gender rather than love then that's their problem. But it bothered me, made my blood boil that anyone could hate the people I love.
Beam and I were at the grocery store, buying food wit Morgan riding in the cart happily. He always had a smile on his face, and I vowed that I would keep it that way.
"Fucking faggots raising kids now", someone said in the distance. Beam visibly tensed, but otherwise ignored it. He tried remain strong but I can tell how the comments got to him, no matter how hard he tried to hide it.
"They won't be happy until everyone's a homosexual like them." My rage was quickly rising. Beam noticed my anger, and tried to calm me down, but he couldn't even help me know.
"Hey faggots!", they called at us now. "A man and woman raise a child, no other way.. it's abomination." I couldn't take it anymore. I refuse for anyone to talk my family in such a manner, and would teach these fucks respect.
"I said two faggots can't rai-", he was cut off with my fist colliding with his face. A crunching sound escaped, and he laid on the ground holding his jaw. His friend came over with his fist raised, I struck him easily in the face. He fell like his friend, but that didn't stop me from attacking them. They cowered and were covered in blood, my fists felt raw and some bone was visible through the blood. Beam ran over and helped me up, we left the store without second look back. I was still tense with anger, so Beam drove home deep in thought.
"We're leaving", I told Beam once we were home. He was upset, he loved it here and would miss his friends.
"We can't just leave. What about our jobs? And your parents?"
"I'm not raising a child in some place where they condemn our love! I can move the company, you can transfer, and we'll visit them."
"I've wanted to move awhile now, but I knew you loved it here. But what happened in the store is the reality, and I refuse to live like this." He was quite for long time, looking deep in my eyes, searching.
"Alright. Where you wanna go?"
"I was thinking California." I answered without hesitation. So for the next few weeks, we prepared to move. Beam finished the year and we left. My parents were sad, but understood why we had to move. I think my mom would miss Beam and Morgan more than me honestly, she could barely part with them. We bought a Spanish style home in Camel. I moved the business easily and Beam got a job with a very prestigious school close by. The school had a child face facility so Morgan could be close by Beam, which they both loved. The vibe was just different then in Carolina, and I was at peace in our new home.
" This is the last move right?" Beam asked. I know how unstable his past was and how he didn't like change reality.
"I promise love", I reassured him before kissing him deeply. Our love burned as bright as the day we fell in love.
