"Hey, wake up! Wake up!!"
Moon jumped, up and down on Elara's giant bed, shaking her sister and trying to wake her from a deep sleep. Elara groaned and turned over, angry that she had been awoken from a particularly good dream. Moon wasn't going to be ignored that easily, however, and she leaped on top of her sister, swatting at her face.
"Moonie." Elara tried, but failed in pushing her sister off, so she simply gave in and sat up. This effectively caused Moon to quit pestering her. "What do you want?"
Normally, Moon wouldn't wake Elara so early, whether she was awake or not. But today was special, there were guests in the castle. Monster guests.
"Mom invited people into the castle today! But you won't believe who they are!!"
This elicited another groan from Elara. Moon had woken her up for this? She tried to lay back down and wave her smaller sister away, but Moonie just started jumping again.
"C'mon, they're not normal people!"
This perked Elara's ears a bit. Her mother had apparently invited not normal people into the castle; that was a little strange. But still, Elara imagined it was just some other Mewmen from the wild somewhere. So she continued to try and go back to sleep.
"Ugh. El, It's monsters, mom invited the monster king and his general to-" Moon hadn't even finished her sentence before Elara shot up and out of bed. The second her feet hit the floor she sprinted towards the staircase to the main entrance. Moon ran with her, but couldn't catch up to her older sister. "Sis - wait up!"
Elara didn't even hear Moon yelling, she only heard the pounding of her heart against her chest.
By the time she reached the banister a few feet away from the staircase, her breathing was labored and her legs ached a little. She wasn't used to running so fast all of a sudden. But, her pain was well worth it, because at the bottom of the staircase was her mother, speaking to the monster king. His general was standing close beside him, in his normal black and red mesh attire. His pauldrons were still missing.
"Toffee." Elara couldn't take her eyes off him. He looked so much better than she remembered, not like she had forgotten anyway. It was just the initial look; the way he stood with one leg taking all of his weight, and the way his hands were held behind his back. What made her extremely happy was the fact he hadn't replaced his Butterfly skull pauldrons.
She grinned widely. How she loved looking at him. Sighing, she rested her head in her hands on the banister. She looked like a little kid in a candy store, looking over the body of the Septarian like he was, in fact, candy.
It didn't take long at all for Toffee to notice the star-struck princess above him. He stole a glance, of which she likely didn't notice, and stole a few more. Only until he shifted his weight did Elara notice that he was watching her. She ripped her arms away from the banister and backed away some. This had him taking even more glances in her direction. He liked how once she had finally noticed him looking at her, she became embarrassed.
Nearly at the exact same time, both of them noticed that Elara had just woken up and was still in her nightgown.
"Darn it!" Elara panicked, not wanting Toffee to see her in such a state, but already knowing it was too late. Toffee only smirked, then turned to pay attention to the queen once more, not sending another glance Elara's way.
This gave Elara the chance to run back to her room and change, which is exactly what Toffee wanted her to do. He wanted to see the look on her face when she came back to talk to him and he brought up how cute she looked in her nightgown. But he would never really tell her that, especially not in her own home where he was surrounded by her family's army.
Soon, Elara had come back. her hair was brushed straight to reach down the length of her back, and her dress was more form fitting than a normal princesses dress would be. The dress was white, mixed with other colors here and there. When she had reached the bottom of the staircase all attention went to her. Toffee turned his body to face her and bowed only a little.
"Ah, this must be the little princess in training." The monster king mused, looking extremely content to be inside the castle.
The Queen sighed inwardly and caught the notice of Toffee and Elara while she did it, "This is my daughter, Elara Butterfly."
The king smiled kindly and bowed to the little princess. "It's so very nice to meet you - you are such a beautiful sight," The king looked over at his general, who had never taken his eyes off the princess, and elbowed him in the side, "Isn't she, Toffee?"
Toffee nodded carefully, taking his gaze off of Elara long enough to look at his king. "Yes, she is." He said quickly and precisely, before turning to look at Elara again. He was being honest, though he tried his best not to show it. It was hard not to let his guard down when the beautiful girl was around.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well," Elara said, trying to keep her voice lifted like a queen should. It was difficult to keep cool while Toffee was there, standing only two feet away from her. She bowed gracefully as well, in respect towards the king. Toffee smiled in acceptance.
"Oh there's no need for that," The king said quickly, waving his arms, "I'm not nearly as important as you are, princess Butterfly."
At this the Queen commandeered the rest of the conversation. "Well, we should be heading to the drawing room for our morning tea." She turned to her daughter, frowning as she spoke, "You two know each other already, don't you." She nearly growled the last bit, lowering her eyes at Toffee, who brushed her off like she was nothing, "Elara, show this gentleman around the castle."
And with that the Queen had taken the king, leaving Elara alone with the Septarian. He looked down at her, continuing to admire her greatly.
"Um... Ok.." Elara stuttered, practically in heaven to be alone with him, "Do you.. uh.. want some tea as well..?"
Toffee gave the hint of a small smile, sending shivers down Elara's spine and causing her cheeks to heat up. He nodded. "As long as you will join me, princess." He said, never missing a beat.
She could have passed out then and there. As much as she sort of wanted to, she didn't want to loose a single second with Toffee. Excited and nervous as all hell, Elara smiled, holding her arms out to show the Septarian the way.
"O-of course... Come.. This way.."
*This is now the longest book I have ever written! None of my other books (even the good ones) got past chapter 5. Usually by this time I'm so tired of writing on them I stop for good. I'm still enjoying writing on this one so much though, so hopefully I continue and actually finish this! Sadly, I only have time for this one chapter again today, so the next chapter should be coming in tomorrow :) Thanks for the reads, you guys are awesome! BUHHH BYEEE :D*
