"Mr. Argent, A.D.A Brown is here to see you," my assistant, Jenny, tells me as she enters my office. I put my hand on my cheek bored out of my mind. What does Brown want with me now? Jenny stands by the door impatiently waiting for an answer.
"Tell him I don't want to see him," I tell her. She nods her head turning around to head out.
"Come on, Argent you can't see a friend?" Brown asks from behind Jenny before she has a chance to leave. I didn't even know he was behind the door. I roll my eyes at him while gesturing for Jenny to leave.
"We are not friends, Brown," I tell him. He ignores me taking a seat on one of my chairs across from me. "What do you want?" I ask him. He looks at me for a second giving me a bright smile. He is making me more bored than I am already if he wants something he should just say it before I kick him out.
"You researched me," he says in a whisper.
"How do you know that?" I ask him.
"I have my ways," he says following with a sigh, "so, what do I have to do to buy your silence?" He asks. What does he think this is? He can't buy my silence, "is it money you want?" He asks.
"I don't want your money or anything from you," I tell him, "and your secret is safe with me, you wouldn't want everyone to know that you're a prince, would you?" I ask. He shakes his head no.
"No, there is always a catch with people like you," he says, "it means you want something," he says with a frown. "I can get you a tour of the castle or I can get you a private jet to go anywhere you want, any country all paid for," he says. I laugh at him so hard that my stomach starts hurting. He must know that I don't want something from him, why can't he just accept that someone is doing something nice for him?
"Brown, I can get my own private jet, I can go to any country I want, and I certainly can get my own tour of the castle if I want to," I say after I've laughed my butt off. He stays silent without saying anything.
"Of course you can, you're an Argent," he says after a while.
"Exactly," I say ironically, "I really do mean it though, I won't tell anyone."
"Thank you, but what do you get out of it?"
"Why do you assume I want something or I'm planning something?" I ask. He looks at me raising an eyebrow, "Okay, maybe I would, but I'm not as bad as people think, I have a heart, unlike some people," I tell him whispering the last part to myself referring to Marie-Anne. She probably would blackmail someone now that I think about it.
"Okay, why?" He asks.
"Why would you keep it a secret if you won't get anything out of it? I know you do not like me very much," he says with a thinking face.
"I never said I didn't like you," I hate him not dislike him, "but I spent my whole life trying to escape being an Argent, I hate when people judge you because of the family you come from. I know you just want to be Tyler the stupid A.D.A not Prince Tyler, you don't want people to treat you any different, so can you just accept my gratitude before I change my mind?"
"Thank you, I'll owe you one," he says with a smile. I start to say something, but just shut up. Don't people in England do nice things without expecting something back? He just cannot accept that I did him a favor without wanting anything back, a true Prince. "Um...one more thing," he says raising his index finger.
"Tyler, can I call you Tyler?"He nods his head so I can continue, "I already did you a favor, I won't do another one," I say. He frowns and I stare at him waiting for him to leave. "What is it?" I finally ask once I noticed that he wasn't going to leave.
"Jean and I?" He asks. Mhmm, I almost forgot about that, what shall I do? I honestly don't care at this moment, I don't what he does, what Marie-Anne does, I don't care what anyone does.
"Okay, what about it?" I ask trying to act dumb.
"You know what I mean," he says with a huff.
"Well, Tyler you were raised as a prince, I'm sure they've taught you that your job is to protect the people. That's the exact same thing an A.D.A does, it protects the people from evil guys, now you are not doing your job, it's up to you to fix it, not me." I tell him. I feel like a therapist right now, I'm on fire. I should switch my career to become a therapist, I would give good advice.
"I am doing my job," he says.
"No, you're not, every time you have a case that Marie-Anne is a defense attorney in you are not doing your job. You should not have personal relationships with the defense attorney that is defending the criminal you are trying to prosecute, Tyler!" I yell so he can get the idea in his head.
"I know how to keep my personal life and professional life separated," he says. "All I'm asking is that you don't tell the D.A, I'm sure you wouldn't mind," he says.
"My mouth is shut, it's not my secret to tell."
"Thank you," he says with a smile. He smiles too much, it makes me mad. He gets up to leave when I remember something I had to tell him.
"And Tyler," he turns and looks at me, "you care too much," I tell him.
"About what?" He asks.
"You wouldn't care if I told the D.A about Marie-Anne and you if it wasn't serious. Any man would just end it not risk their career, there are thousands of pussy in the sea my friend, let it go," I tell him.
"I don't," he simply says.
"Yeah and I'm not white," I joke. He doesn't get it so I just let it go.
"Um...okay, goodbye," he says shaking his head. He leaves slamming the door way louder than he should have. I don't, I say the words again, this boy does not know what he's in for.
Have you guys ever loved someone who didn't feel the same way?
