Mulligan and Madison were often told they looked alike. Personally, they didn't see it. Despite that, they didn't have anything in common. So when Mulligan waited for Laurens at his and Madison's dorm, it was a bit awkward.

Mulligan needed someone to talk to about the previous night's events and seeing that Alexander shared a dorm with Jefferson, Laurens seemed like a better option.

"Mulligan," James responded as he opened the door.

"Madison, is John here? I need to talk to him," Hercules replied.

James raised his eyebrows and motioned him to come in; Mulligan entered the dorm.

"John's not here yet, but he's on his way, you can just wait if you want." Hercules nodded and sat down on their couch.

There was some silence before Madison sat down beside him.

"So, you seem a bit..."

"What?"

"Freaked out?"

"I..."

"You can tell me what's going on; I won't tell anyone."

Ordinarily, Mulligan wouldn't have told Madison anything, but he needed to talk, so he did.

"Lafayette kissed me," he let out.

"What?" James was surprised.

"Yeah, we were just watching a movie, and out of nowhere, he just kissed me."

"What did you do?"

"I froze, I didn't even say anything to him, he just left."

Hercules sounded more worried now than before.

"I mean, should I have done something? I haven't talked to him since last night; I don't even know where he went, except that Thomas came into class this morning and asked to speak with Washington in the hallway. Ordinarily, I wouldn' have cared but he said it was about Lafayette so now he probably hates me too, and if he did go to Jefferson's dorm then Alex probably knows too. Am I the bad guy in this situation? Should I have done something?"

Hercules talked so fast James had trouble comprehending everything.

"I'm sorry, I just don't know what to do," Mulligan said and covered his face with his hands.

Madison felt kind of bad for the guy.

"You know, if it makes you feel any better, the same thing happened to me."

"What?" The younger man looked up at him.

"A few months ago; Thomas kissed me out of nowhere, I reacted the same as you, I haven't spoken to him since."

"That's what Laf was talking about," Hercules realised

"Sorry?"

"Lafayette, yesterday, um before all that, he told us that you and Jefferson weren't getting along, but he wouldn't say why."

"Oh, well now you know."

There was silence again. John still wasn't there.

"But do you like him?" Madison suddenly asked.

Mulligan looked at him confusedly.

"Look, I don't like Thomas like that, and our friendship is over as far as I know. If you do like Lafayette, go for it, I'm not the best guy to ask for relationship advice but, if you think there's something there, fuck it, just go for it."

Mulligan smiled. Maybe this wasn't the same as what happened between Madison and Jefferson because he didn't not like Lafayette when he thought about it; he was kind of cute, the way his lips lifted upward when he smiled. The warm glow his happiness gave. His smile was a ray of sunshine, and Hercules was a sunburn. Maybe he liked him a little.

"Madison, I have to go find my friend."

Madison smiled.

"Yeah, you do."

Mulligan stood up, and as he went to open the door, Laurens entered.

"Herc, what's going on." He asked confused.

"Um," Hercules looked at James,

"Madison can you.."

"Yes, just hurry before it's too late."

"John, I'll talk to you later."

And so he rushed out the door, making his way to his dorm, hoping that his roommate would be back by now.
