Six years later...
"Morning," Mateo pressed a peck on the lips and wrapped an arm around my waist. He smelled of sandalwood with a mixture of his sweat. The tank top he was wearing was wet on the chest part. He just came home from a morning run.
"My, my!" I clicked my tongue, "Why are you so sexy today?"
He chuckled, "I don't think so, I am average."
I faked a scowl, "Average, you say? I think you are exceptional," I giggled, then I kissed him again.
"Naughty," he whispered with a grin. "Should I wake Stephon up?" he asked.
"Yes. I already made breakfast. I don't want to be late again. It's Rafael's sixth year death anniversary. I promised Elizabeth that I'll be there on time."
He sighed, "Rafael, Rafael. It's been six years, but you still can't forget about him." he shook his head.
"You don't mean that."
He shrugged, "Maybe?"
Honestly, I didn't want him to think about it like that. It had been six years, for goodness sakes. I admitted that Rafe still had a place in my heart, and it would remain forever, but this was my life now and I was engaged to his cousin.
I had learned to love Mateo. He was a good man and he cared about me. He was easy to love. He was not after Rafe's company and I learned about it just by being with him for more than a half decade. It was only his father who wanted it. When Rafe died, Elizabeth took his position and agreed to become the CEO temporarily, but she would, later on, pass the position to Julian, Rafe's younger brother.
"Ugh, quit being jealous. He is resting in peace now. Besides, he's still Stephon's father. I can't take that away from him."
"Of course, I understand, but I wanted to marry you as soon as possible this year. When are you going to tell Stephon that I am going to be his new father?"
I sighed, "I was slowly telling that to him, besides he already treated you like one. He even calls you dad sometimes."
"He's a good boy," Mateo said.
"Yes, he is," I grinned. "Oh, wake him up. We have to visit the memorial park, first."
Mateo went to his bedroom next door and while my boys were probably playing, I decided to pack some things I needed. Sighing, I wondered when would I tired of visiting Rafe's grave. I did miss him so much. The sight of him dying in my arms was too hurtful to bear and I promised him that I won't stop visiting him until I get married to the right man.
Rafael was the right man. Nothing compared to what I felt for him, even Mateo. Of course, I loved his cousin, and he cares a lot about me and Stephon, but deep in my heart, I knew I'd never find a love that could match to his.
"Mommy?" Stephon appeared at my side. He scratched his eyes, "I'm still so sleepy."
Mateo picked him up in his arms, "Oh, you are still sleepy little bear? Do you want some cereals?"
Stephon nodded, "Are we going to my daddy later?" he asked.
"Yes, baby. We're going to visit your daddy, but for now, please let daddy bear feed you first, and then he'll take you to bath, okay?" Mateo said.
"Hurry up, we'll be late. Elizabeth is expecting us to be early," I told Mateo.
"Let's go, little bear. Mommy's being grumpy!
