the problem ok i'm laughing at how funny i am and how you guys probably don't think it's funny but wygd anyways what the actual dick a mermaid this is real people it's a serious crisis i don't understand why some people think that making their character a mermaid
is cool it doesn't work like that you know? just because kmbell or whatever did it doesn't mean we all go making our characters mermaids. like? it was never mentioned in the books or in any canon works that mermaids in the hp universe could walk on land or LOOK LIKE NORMAL HUMAN BEINGS they were canonically described as ugly, green, scaly creatures. not gorgeous emma watson duplicates.
the solution if you want you character to be different, don't let them have some special ability that completely fucks with the plot of your story. give them a strong personality, or even a rare faceclaim. just not a goddamn mermaid. please.
