I found Rafael on the rooftop of the company building. He was standing at the edge, looking down below.
"Rafael?" I called him. The sound of my voice was mixing with the strong airstream, it was slapping me against the face. I wasn't even sure if he heard me.
"Rafe? What are you doing there? Come here! It's dangerous!" I screamed, making sure he really heard me this time.
He shifted his head then he glanced at me. His face was blank, and there was no emotion in his eyes. "Clara? If you can't stay with me, I'll rather go," he said then, he smiled weakly.
I caught my mouth. What is he doing to do? Is he going to jump? "No, Rafe... I won't leave you, okay? Don't do this." I began to cry. I tried to reach him with my arms but I oddly couldn't move. I was suddenly stuck like my feet were buried in the ground.
"No!" I screamed. "Rafe! Don't!" I cried. "Come here!"
"Goodbye, my love." Rafe turned around and then he jumped.
"Rafe!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.
Then I felt a gentle pat on my cheeks. "Clara? Clara!"
I opened my eyes abruptly. I found Rafael's face on top of me. "R-Rafe?"
I cupped his face, then stroked every inch of his face with my fingers. "Rafe?"
He held my wrists, "Hey, what's wrong? You're sweating."
It's just a dream. It felt so real. It was just a dream. I hooked my arms around him then I pulled to me. He was here. He's not dead. I remembered how we made love last night and how we fell asleep in each other's arms.
"I thought you were dead." I began to cry.
He pulled away then he cupped my face, "Dead? Why would I be dead?"
"In my dream, you are dead."
He chuckled, "No, It's not real. I'm here, okay?"
I nodded, then realized that I should go home. Paolo was home. He must be worried by now. I didn't answer his call last night. "I think I should go, Rafe,"
"Can't you stay a little longer?"
"I want to, but my brother might be waiting for me."
"Oh," Rafe pulled away. "But I should at least feed you before you leave," he said and then he stood, not bothering to show his bare asset. Hmm... I felt an urge building up my core again. No, I really think I should go home. Get a grip, Clara.
I pulled the blanket and covered my body. I gulped hard. I still remembered how he looked like in my dream. I watched him picked up his clothes and then he wore his boxer briefs and then his sweatpants.
"Are you okay?" he frowned when he caught my eyes.
"Uh?" I looked up at him, "Yeah. I'm fine."
"Is this about the dream?"
"You were – uh – about to jump off a building."
He smiled at me and then he crawled back to bed. He leaned closer, "It won't happen." Rafe kissed my temple, "Let me take you home later."
Tick. Tick. Tick.
Rafe's head shot up and then glanced at the opening door. I cocked my head and I found a young girl in a yellow dress watching us. Her eyes were wide as her mouth.
