Beam was sitting straight, in the chair, almost as if he was a statue. His hands were sweating and his heart beating fast. His head, also, was a little bit dizzy because of the anticipation. He hadn't brought his car with him that day and as soon as classes were over, he had asked Kit to drop him off at the engineering faculty of their university. Phana had disappeared from the classroom even before he could ask for a ride... good friend he was. He could have easily walked all the way from the medicine faculty to where he was then but it was a twenty minutes walk. No thanks, he didn't wish to be seen walking around.
In the foreign cafeteria, as expected, some of the engineering students were eyeing him. Some girls were murmuring about how handsome he was (what's new?) and some boys were questioning their friends as to why he would be there, sitting alone and staring at his iPhone's screen as if it had all the answers. He was certainly expecting someone, because what else would he be doing at such different faculty from his own? It wasn't a frequent sight to see a medicine student just sitting between them like trying to blend in and not being seen.
"Beam, you came!" Beam was momentarily startled as he felt a hand on his shoulder. He quickly looked up and saw him. Saw the guy with wide smile and tan skin that had been making him feel all those warm feelings. There stood Forth, the guy that had asked him to go and fetch him at the engineering building.
"Hey..." Beam could only mutter as he kept on staring at Forth's face. Forth gave him his trademark bright smile as he tenderly rubber Beam's cheek with his thumb. As if he had been electro-shocked, Beam opened his eyes like plates and felt a blush spread through his face. Forth could only widen his smile as he saw Beam shyly look away.
"So, how do you like the engineering faculty?" Forth tried changing the subject, not wanting to make Beam feel more mortified than he already was. His cheeks were unnaturally red.
"Hmmm, really..." Beam tried to find the words as he looked at his surroundings. Still, all the eyes were on them and the uncommon exchange happening between the head hazer and the handsome medicine student. Again, Beam swallowed and tried not to feel too embarrassed. "It's nice..." he tried to find the words but nice was all he could come up with.
"Oh, ok..." Forth smiled again and searched for Beam's eyes. When he finally was staring directly at him, he took Beam's hand carefully and beckoned him to stand. Beam did so and Forth didn't let go of his hand. "Let's go, then. My bike is parked near. C'mon," Beam nodded quietly next to him as he looked at Forth and saw his smile. Inevitably, he smiled too and yeah, they both were the picture perfect of fools.
