"Oh, um what?" "You heard me." He stated, smiling cruelly. I began looking around frantically,

confused. "You're okay. I won't hurt you." He said cooly, now placing himself on one of the

couches. I found myself running towards the door, unlocking it, and swinging it open. All the

while I paid no attention to Jake.

I turned around to slam it shut, but he was standing there. "That's not possible." I whispered,

shocked.

"You-," He began. "You smell different. You're special in some way." I just stood there like an

idiot. What did he mean? I smell different. "What are you talking about?" I asked. "I know what

you are." He replied. "I, what?" I sounded confused, and I was. "You don't know, do you?"

"Know what!" I shouted, and it wasn't a question. I was fully aware of what he was talking about

- well apart from the 'smelling different' - but I was in shock. I didn't understand how he could

have know about me. I had been so cautious to keep it a secret.

And then the pieces of the puzzle fit together. He was like me.

He was a wolf.

"That's not possible!" I repeated.

He was leaning over me; I could feel his hot breath on my face. "I thought I was the only one. I thought I was alone. How do you know? Did you see?" I rambled on. He was paying attention, but most likely was not planning on telling me the answers to my questions. Then I heard him inhale deeply.

"I told you - you smell different. There's something... Off about you."

"I'm not alone." I breathed. This was hard to take in. For the past four years of my life I was sure I was alone. That no one could understand. And I was so wrong. So very wrong. The last piece of my puzzle placed its self in with the rest. The wolves. The ones who attacked me. They weren't wolves. Not real ones, anyway. They were like me, like him.

"And we're not the only ones." I said with the last of my breath. And then everything went black.
