"We are products of our past, but we don't have to be prisoners of it." - Rick Warren
Clara and I walk back towards the party as I hold my hand on her lower back. I feel so comfortable with her, like I've known her forever. I can still taste her sweet lips on mine. I didn't plan for our first kiss to heat up so quickly, but I couldn't help myself. She drives me fucking crazy.
I try to control my anger as I lay my eyes on Louis's back. He interrupted Clara and I at the worst time possible. He better have a hell of a reason.
"Hey, Lou." I call from behind him. Louis spins around quickly and let's out a deep breath when he lays his eyes on Clara and I.
"Thank God, Clara's with you." Louis nervously runs his hand through his hair.
"What are you talking about?" Clara asks confused. "Niall knew we were here."
I look around to search for Niall, but he's no where to be found. He probably has already left to go see Sarah. Niall and his girlfriend are always breaking up and getting back together. He came here tonight to flirt and get over her like he's done numerous times before, but he always goes back. He's crazy about that girl.
"Yeah, well he's already gone," Louis answers Clara. "Someone needs to call him and make sure he's okay. Clara, you're staying with us in a hotel tonight. We all need to leave. Now."
"Whoa. Slow down. What the hell is going on?" I ask Louis.
Louis's eyes avert to Clara, and then back to me. He lets out a deep breath.
"We need to talk. Just not here."
Louis climbs into the driver side of his car that I drove as he explains that a taxi dropped him off at the party right before he had called out to me. It must have cost him a fortune to have a cab bring him out to the bayou. I think back to how he told me a friend from work was going to drop him off at the party before Clara and I would get there, so what changed?
I can tell Clara's nervous, so I climb into the back seat with her. I lay my hand on her knee, and she gives me a small smile. Louis starts the car and hastily pulls out onto the old dirt road.
"Okay Louis. Want to tell us what's going on?"
"This isn't about me," Louis answers. "This is about her."
"Me?" Clara asks.
"Yeah. I ended up not having a ride to the bayou so I was waiting for a cab when this guy came out of no where and shoved me into his truck. He put a gun to my head and told me to tell you that Jack knows where you are and he's ready to talk."
Clara's face goes pale. Her breathing pace starts to pick up. I grab her face in my hands.
"Clara. Hey, look at me. You're okay." She closes her eyes as I lower my voice to a whisper. I grab her hand and place it on my chest. "Feel my breathing. Breathe like me, Clara. You're safe."
She opens her eyes as her breathing goes back to normal. I look up and see Louis observing us in the rear view mirror. I put my hands on Clara's shoulder's.
"We need you to tell us who Jack is." I say peering into her brown orbs.
Clara turns her head to Louis. "Where is he staying?"
"I don't know." Louis answers.
"You're lying." She snaps. "If he wanted to talk to me he would have told you where he was staying."
"That's all he told me, Clara!" Louis hits his steering wheel.
"Whoa, calm d-" I'm interrupted by Clara.
