I kicked my legs violently as the duck neared us.
"Woah there, pretty boy," Clary laughed. "It's just a duck."
I glared at her.
"Alright, alright. I'll make it go away." She laughed more to herself then out loud. The duck apparently knew its fate because as Clary approached it, it pecked her shoe.
"Son of a bitch!" She screamed.
I went to the picnic basket and grabbed the first thing I could find and threw it at the duck.
"A mango?" She asked.
The duck flew away making an irritated "quack!"
We went back and laid down in the grass.
"The sky's beautiful, isn't it?" Clary said with dreaminess in her eyes.
I looked over at her. I didn't always get to notice her features this close. Vibrant red hair, small figure, beautiful green eyes. She turned her head and I quickly turned away, not wanting her to know I was staring at her. Again.
"Yea, it is," I replied with haste.
We sat up and walked over to the pinic basket and fell deep into conversation.
Her hair blew in the wind like an angel on earth while she talked about new runes she came up with.
She looked down and smiled.
"Jace, stop staring at me," she said.
"I only stare at things that are beautiful. And old ladies that look like men," I said. Probably not the best thing to say, I thought as I mentally smacked myself.
"Hey!" She laughed as she playfully punched my arm.
"Oh.my.god," she covered her hand over her mouth. "Did Jace Lightwood just smile?" Clary giggled...
"Shh." I loved to see her laugh. "We better go, it's getting late and I don't want to run into another duck."
"Okay," Clary said as she gathered up our stuff and we started to head inside.
I stopped dead in my tracks.
A little boy with brown hair and glasses emerged from the trees.
"Holy shit." I swore.
"Jace, what did you say?" Clary asked with concern in her eyes.
"Don't you see him?" I pointed in the direction of the mousy looking boy reading comics below an apple tree.
"See who, Jace?" Clary looked confused.
"It's him, Clary. He's here," I replied.
"Who's here? Jace what are you talking about?" She said.
"Max," I whispered.
