Third Person POV

Amelia sat in the steel chair patiently waiting for her friend to come out.

When he saw her, his eyes got bigger in surprise. Sure he wasn't expecting to see her but he was still happy.

He sat down with a huge smile as she waved.

They both pick up the phones in sync before placing it to their ears.

"Hi."

"Hi."

"When they told me I had a visitor I was not expecting to see you." He chuckles.

"I could tell by the look on your face. How have you been in here?"

"I'm alright I guess, I keep to myself. I did make one friend though."

"Is he nice?"

"Yeah he's probably the most sane person here."

"Good. I just want to say how proud of you I am for turning yourself in. Even though I miss you, I know you're doing the right thing." She let's a tear fall off of her cheek.

"Thank you. Please don't cry, I'll be out of here before you know it. Does Krista know you're here?"

"Of course not, if I told her I was coming here she'd lock me in the house."

"That sounds about right. Well you should go- our time is almost up anyway."

"Fine. I'll come back soon."

"Alright, now go get that diploma."

"Okay." She nods sadly before fixing her tassle out of her face.

///

She sat through everyone's name being called with her arms crossed over her chest.

They had a moment of silence for Milo and Fiona who had also "supposedly killed herself" days after her confession in the hallway.

After everyone had their diplomas, the confetti exploded and everyone cheered.

Amelia however did the opposite, quickly standing to her feet and looking for her family only to be stopped by Krista and Oli.

"Babe can you believe we actually did it!"

"No not really."

"We can not forget about each other." Oli jokes.

"Never." Krista shakes her head, giving him a hug.

As they hugged, Amelia took the opportunity to slip away. She had no interest in sappy talk.

Loads of people who she didn't talk to tried to have small talk but she wasn't having it.

She saw her mother outside with other families.

"Congrats!"

"Thanks mom." She gave her a big hug.
"Where is everyone?"

"The rest of the family left already, they are headed over to the house for your party."

"Did Rosaline show up?" She asks about her favorite cousin.

"Surprisingly yes."

"Cool well I have to do something first, then I'll come straight home."

"Alright be safe."

///

"Uh I don't know if you can hear me but I graduated today. They even gave you a moment of silence. I-it was nice."

Silence.

"I really wish you were there. I know I already said that when I came here before prom but I mean it."

Silence.

"I still love you." She sighs.

"Good."

She whips her head around with her mouth wide open.

"I'm- how? You're not real go away!" She screams.

"I thought I'd find you here." He chuckles.

"I'm going insane." She blinks rapidly.

"I've missed you too."

"Shut up!"

"Touch me- I'm real." He smiles, walking towards her.

She slowly stands from the headstone and cautiously meets him halfway. She reaches out to touch his face, actually making contact with his skin before pulling away with teary eyes.

"I'll explain everything later if you come with me. We can start a new life together. I know you're not happy here with Krista." He chuckles before turning away from her.

"No I'm not."

"Well are you coming?" He looks over his shoulder.

"...y-yes." She nods before jogging after him into the woods.

---

In the end, the biggest manipulation
was love.

....and she loved a...boy very, very much
-even more than she loved herself.
