Chapter 12 : Saved By Mike

   Sam entered the English classroom with a smile on her face. She sat at her desk and started talking to the girl next to her. She had blonde hair, grey eyes, and wore a Nirvana t-shirt with jeans and black converse. Sam liked her immediately.

" Hi, I'm Sam. My partner said he wanted to switch partners with me. So, do you want to be my partner? I love your shirt, Nirvana is a great band", said Sam smirking. The girl looked at her and smiled.

" I'm Ashley, sure I'd love to be your partner and I know right, finally someone gets them. I think you're going to be my new best friend", said Ashley. The teacher came in and began the lesson while Mike kept looking towards Sam's direction. She decide to ignore it until Ashley tapped her on the arm.

" Yea?, she whispered. They were working on annotating their copies of The Great Gatsby. Ashley passed her the note and whispered, " Your boyfriend wanted me to give you this".

" What are you talking about?, I don't have a--", said Sam stopping for a second.

" He kept staring at you. So, I though he was either your boyfriend or just a creepy guy. I figured boyfriend was the most logical explanation"said Ashley with her finger on her book.

" Right", said Sam glancing towards Mike who smiled and winked at her.

The note said that he missed her and that they were still assigned partners in media studies and in this class.

The teacher looked towards Sam's direction while she was reading the note.

" Miss Montez, I'm sorry that The Great Gatsby is not holding your attention as much as that note you're reading is. Hand it over, please.", said the teacher sticking her hand out.

Sam froze. Surprisingly enough, Mike ended up saving her.

" It was my fault, professor. You see I was writing to Sam on when we could meet for our project in media studies.", said Mike glancing towards her.

The teacher looked at Sam.

" Is this true, Miss Montez?, asked the teacher. Sam improvised on the spot. " Yes, it true, its due in a few months and we've only covered a few topics", she said calmly even though her heart was beating fast.

The teacher at her and nodded her head. " All right then, Miss Montez. Just please pay attention next time. I would hate to fail you over lack of attention on your part".

Sam nodded and sat back down. She mouthed a thank you to Mike, who smiled at her.

She thought that she would get detention but Mike saved her. She knew that having some space from him was the right decision. After all, he's the only friend she's made since arriving at the school and it's already been two weeks. That's not good, people would start to think that she's doesn't have any friends besides him. That's how it was with Will. Besides Will, Charlotte was the only person Sam had gotten close to after she left the band. They email each other about their days and just catch up on what's been going on with their lives. 

The last time she spoke to Charlotte had been yesterday. She had told her about the Mike situation and Charlotte had said ,

 " So, go for it, it's not like he's taken. Also, he clearly likes you". Sam had ignored that then Charlotte left with one last piece of advice which was " Do the thing that scares you".  It was the same thing she had said to Will but she didn't know how it applied her. There wasn't really anything she was scared of at the moment. Maybe, she'll find something later on.
