It took Annie ages to find Josh, at first she thought he’d left without her. She excused herself from the dinner table and searched every room. He was no where to be seen. She came to the last door on the top floor of the agency building. Do Not Enter, Staff Only was written on the white door. “Worth a try” She whispered to herself and slowly opened the door. It was a tiny dark room with a fixed metal ladder leading to the roof. She climbed it and opened the roof door to be taken back by hot wind. She looked around for a few minutes before seeing Josh, sitting at the edge of the roof. “A nice view up here” Her soft voice spoke as she sat down next to him slowly. “You can see for miles” It was a clear night, with a million stars lighting up the sky. The moon was full. Josh didn’t say a thing, he glanced at her though before looking back at the view. “D-Did you mean what you said?” She hesitated to ask.

“I told you, I wont let them hurt you” He swallowed, still refusing to look at her.

“Josh! You know what I mean”

“Yes” He mumbled. The news hit Annie hard.

“S-Since when?”

“Remember the first day of high school? I thought you looked stunning so I went to talk to you. I was popular so you thought it was a joke and didn’t want anything to do with me. I annoyed you for years just to get your attention. I wouldn’t get it other ways. I asked Mrs. Lucas if I could be partnered with you this year, for the project. Maybe you would see I wasn’t a complete dick.” He explained, finally looking into her emerald eyes. She couldn’t help but blush at his words.

“I didn’t think you were a complete dick” She laughed. “Theses past few days, with you…I don’t know how to explain it?”

“You don’t have to say anything to make me feel better about myself, Ann” He began to pulled himself up on the ledge when Annie grasped his hand and pulled him back down. Without even thinking she pressed her soft lips on his. Instantly he kissed her back deeply. She wrapped her arms around his neck and her fingers found his soft hair. He pulled her closer by her waist.

“What was that for?” He beamed with joy, biting on lower lip slightly.

“I guess I feel the same way”

He helped her down the ladder and took her hand, walking back down the corridor.

“Did they say anything when I left?” He asked.

“Not much, Joseph needs to speak to you alone though.” By this time they were outside the room Annie had been given for the night.

“I best go see him then” He replied. “I’ll see you in the morning” He gave her a good night kiss then went to find Joseph.

“Don’t you think you over reacted a bit there Mr. Hutcherson?” Joseph asked when Josh finally found him in his office.

“You shouldn’t scare her like that.” He replied bluntly.

“I bet you have a few questions?” He raised his eyebrows.

“Who’s got my parents?” Josh asked, getting straight to the point.

“Carlos Moore. He’s a black ops agent, works for the bad guys.” He justified.

“Then what do they want with me then?”  Josh leaned across the desk, eager to know more.

“You may not know this, but you’re parents recently took something…something very valuable to Carlos. They want it back. If they get you, your parents have no choice but to hand over the information. They didn’t have time to destroy it before they were captured. If they kill your parents- no chance of the documents. They get you, a whole new story” The words sent a shiver down Josh’s spine.

“How do I get them back safely then?”

“Carlos loves a good party; he’s throwing one tomorrow evening. It’d be a masked party, adds mystery to the theme he says. Your parents will be in one of the rooms, just get the key and find them” He clarified.

“Seems to simple” Josh replied, confused.

“It is that’s why. Security will be everywhere. That’s why we need Annie.”
