Once we reached their house I quickly went inside and went to the room I was currently staying in. I had quickly grabbed my phone and saw I had a lot of messages on it. There were 12 from Amy and 34 from Iza. They both had heard the news about me going to the hospital and wanted to know if I was okay.
Iza even threatened that if I didn't answer in the next 24 hours she would kill whoever put me in the hospital. I laughed a little at that. "What are you laughing at, princess?" I spun around when I heard Zach speak.
"Nothing you need to worry about," I said clutching my phone in my hand.
"Sure it isn't." He said with a smirk. I rolled my eyes.
He came closer to me, with every step he took, I took two steps backwards. "W-What are you doing?" I said a little scared.
He won't hurt me, right?
I had backed up so much I fell onto my bed. I didn't have anywhere to go so I shut my eyes and waited. "What are you doing?" I heard Zach asked confused.
I opened my eyes to find green eyes staring into my brown eyes. I didn't have an answer so I just repeated his question back. "What are you doing?"
He looked more confused than he did before. "I asked you first." He said crossing his arms over his chest.
"Well, technically I asked you first. You know, when you were coming towards me and I was backing up."
I guess it took him a few minutes to process what I said before he opened his mouth to respond but his mother cut him off from speaking. "You guys need to go to bed, it's late, " She said at the door. I looked at her and nodded my head.
"Okay, well until tomorrow, princess." was Zach's last words before exiting my room.
I changed into a simple long sleeved shirt with a pair of pajama bottoms. I brushed my brown hair so that it won't be tangled in the morning before slipping into the bedsheets. I laid my phone on the side table, plugged up before I drifted off to sleep that I wished was filled with rainbows and unicorns but instead was of a memory that will always haunt me.
I was at my mother's funeral. I was dressed all in black, my dress was a simple and the cheapest black dress I could afford. I sat next to my brother, on my left, and my grandparents, on my right. Tears were spilling out of my cheeks, but I tried to hide it.
"Now, would anyone like to speak about the...deceased." This made me burst into tears, and my grandma held me as I cried.
I was glad when the funeral was over, I was taken home, just my father, brother, and me. I knew I was in for it. I was told not to cry at her funeral. If I did there would be consequences. My father came to me, verbally first. "It's your fault she's dead in the first place." I felt a kick in my stomach.
"If you hadn't left that night, she wouldn't be dead!" I heard my brother growl out. I felt punches and kicks for an entire hour before they stopped. All I thought was, it's my fault, it's my fault.
It's my fault she's dead. My fault.
"It's my fault. I'm the reason she's dead." was what I said as soon as I woke up from someone shaking me awake. "Princess?" I heard a voice say, but I couldn't pinpoint it even though I knew the voice. I felt them shake me again. "Wake up, princess." the voice said again.
"Stop hurting me, I didn't mean to do it! It was an accident! I didn't want to be the reason she's dead!" I felt tears stream down my face. Soon enough opened my eyes, tears still slipping from my eyes. "It's my fault, all my fault..." I said not paying attention to who was in the room.
I jumped when someone put a hand on my shoulder. "Princess? Are you okay?" Zach's voice rang in my ear. I looked to see that it was Zach standing there.
I didn't say a word I just looked at him. "You were screaming like you were in pain like someone was hurting you and you were crying and say it was all your fault." He explained.
"Oh," was all I managed to get out.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked.
"Why do you care?" I asked in a whisper.
"Well, if you wake someone up at 4:30 in the morning who is right across the hall with a scream as if someone is dying, who wouldn't care." He said with a small chuckle.
I pushed him to where he lost his balance and fell onto the floor. "It's not funny!" I said.
"Now I'm going to ask you again. Why were you screaming and blaming you for someone's death?" He asked once more.
I sighed. "I-I..." I began. "I need to know if I can trust you first," I told him. That's true, I don't know what he would do I mean, he is one of the worst boys in town, with a secret like mine, who knows what he would do with the information plus I've only known him a few days.
"You can trust me, Lena." He said with a serious look. I looked up at him and nodded my head before I began.
"It was my birthday. I had decided to go out to a bonfire my friend threw. My parents wouldn't let me go, so I snuck out and had one of my friends to come and pick me up." I took a breath before continuing.
"Things had gotten out of control, and so I left, on my own. As I finally reached a road, because I was walking in the woods, I had gotten a phone call from my mom. She was wondering where I was. I told her that I was near the welcome sign. She said she would come and get me."
I few tears escaped my eyes. "She never came. Instead, a policeman came to take me to the hospital, because my mother had gotten hit by a drunk driver. When I had arrived at the hospital my father and Mack were already there in the waiting room."
I wrapped my arms around myself, like a protective shell before I continued. "A doctor came out and told us they tried restarting her heart, but she didn't make it. I never got to say goodbye. The last thing we did was argue. I didn't get to see her in the hospital because my dad didn't want to see her, so we left. That's why I don't like hospitals because she died in one." I finished.
Tears slid down my face and I buried my head in my knees. I didn't mention my father abusing me that night, the first time ever. That would remain a secret for as long as it takes for me to leave that house.
I felt Zach wrap his arm around me and pull me into his side. I ended up laying my head on his chest. "Princess," Zach began, but I cut him off.
"Please, don't call me that. That's what she called me." I said to him.
"Lena," He corrected himself. "Do you want me to stay with you?" He asked.
I didn't know what to say, so I just nodded my head. Zach grabbed the blanket and wrapped it around both of us. "Go back to sleep, I'll still be here when you wake up." He whispered. I slowly drifted off to sleep.
In his arms.
