"What do you mean you're moving to California?! I thought you were gonna stay on the east coast?" my mom asked.

"Ma, you know I always wanted to move out there; that was the plan."

When we first got to high school, me & Monique and our childhood friends Tyreke & Tyrell said we would move to California and go to school together.

"We figured since it took so long, you would stay on this side of the country," my dad said.

"There's no one out in California that can keep an eye on you," my mom said.

I knew it.

"Did you forget Ashaunte and Lisa live out there? And Ashaunte said she'd give me a job AND since Lisa has a shop, she can do my hair," I said convincing them.

"What about church?" my dad asked.

Ugh.

"I can go to church with Monique."

I don't even know if Monique goes to church to be honest.

"It seems like you've already thought this through," my mom said obviously disappointed.

"I have. But it's not like you'll never see me again; I'll come home whenever I can and y'all can come visit me," I said.

They were both really quiet.

"At least you won't have to find a place to live," my dad said trying to cheer up.

"Well, I am happy you'll finally get to go to the school you want," my mom finally said.

"Thanks," I said giving them both hugs, "I'm gonna go get some boxes and start packing up my stuff."

I feel bad that my parents are so upset, but I'm just really excited I finally get to move.

Blake*|
After practice, I really didn't wanna do anything. I just wanted to go home and chill, but Alana called and told me she's coming over. I took a shower then sat on the couch with Chaney and watched tv until she got there.

"Blake?" I heard her say.

"I'm in here!"

As soon as she walked in, Chaney started growling at her.

"I don't think your dog likes me very much," she said.

"Nah. He just needs time to get use to you," I said.

I was lying. Chaney really doesn't like her. It didn't take long for him to get use to Monique or Briana, so maybe it's just her.

"We've been together for a month; don't you think that's enough time?"

"Just give it more time," I said turning my attention back to the tv.

•in my head•
I can't believe we just had that conversation.

"Whatever. I'll be right back," she said getting up.

•in my head•
Such a fuckin' nag!

She came back, holding something in her hand. I wasn't really worried about it, so I continued watching tv.

"Blake, who's this?" she asked holding out the picture Briana gave me.

"My friend Briana," I said kinda annoyed.

"Well why is your 'friend' kissing your cheek and why is this picture in your room?"

•in my head•
What were you doing in my room?

"We're just friends Alana. Calm down," I said trying to ignore her.

I glanced over at her and she was staring at the picture.

"This girl looks like someone I know," she said, "what's her last name?"

"Smalls."

She's really getting on my nerves, but I tried to not make it obvious.

"I do know her!" she yelled.

"How?" I asked.

"We went to school together!"

My got wide because I realized who this girl was. I jumped up and stared at her.

"You're the Alana?! Briana told me about you; I don't think we can see each other anymore!"

"Why?!"

"Because I would be a bad friend to her if I stayed with someone who hurt her."

"Ugh! It's always about her! She doesn't even have to know!"

"Well she already knows I'm dating someone and she wants to meet you. How do you think she's gonna feel when she sees I'm dating you?" I questioned.

"I don't know."

She started crying hysterically. I kinda felt bad for her, so I sat back down and comforted her.

What have I gotten myself into?
