I walked out of the bathroom to find Oikawa on the phone with Iwaizumi. I didn't even need to ask who it was, I could tell by the smile on his face and the light shade of pink on his cheeks. I walked over to check my phone for any messages from Daichi, but there was nothing there. I frowned slightly but shook it off, knowing that he was probably busy with more important things. I sat down on my bed and sent a few messages to the boys back at Karasuno to let them know I was well and to just kind of check in on them. I had to admit that I missed the more than I thought I would.
About an hour later, Oikawa had finally finished talking to Iwaizumi and was about ready to get to bed when all o a sudden he blurted out "Oh shit!" I looked over, slightly confused. "Suga, you need to call Daichi like right now. He called while you were in the shower."
"Oikawa, I thought he forgot about about me, why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"I'm so sorry Suga, I was preoccupied and I just forgot to tell you, please don't be mad..."
I sighed and shook my head. "It's fine. I'll be back in a bit," I grabbed my phone and waked out of the bedroom. I quickly dialed Daichi's number, anxiously waiting for him to pick up.
"Hey Suga..." Daichi said faintly, almost disappointed. "So uhhh I called earlier, but you were in the shower. I guess long showers are kind of your thing but like, it's been an hour.
"I'm so sorry Daichi, I didn't even know you called. Oikawa was on the phone with Iwaizumi and forgot to tell me that you called."
"So, you weren't going to call me? If you didn't know I called you first, you weren't even going to check in before going to sleep? You could check in with the boys back at Karasuno, but you couldn't check in with your boyfriend? Your fiance?" I could tell that he was getting more and more frustrated as he continued speaking so I decided to butt in.
"Daichi, I figured you were just busy or tired. I didn't want to bother you. I really am sorry that I didn't call, but can you please tell me what's getting you so worked up? This isn't like you," I said in the most calming voice I could manage. I was genuinely worried about him. Daichi never got this worked up about anything.
"Your roommate is Oikawa? You didn't even bother to tell me. I get that he's not our enemy but... it's just hard to trust him..."
"Daichi... Oikawa is the least of our worries. He's actually a really great guy and he's absolutely in love with Iwaizumi, so please don't worry about him being my roommate. If anything, you should be worried about your roommates and making sure they don't cause any trouble. Akaashi told me about it after he talked to Bokuto. The boy puts on a strong face and tried to act indifferent but he misses Bokuto so much," I smiled softly at the thought. "But seriously Daichi, I'm fine, we're fine, and you have nothing to worry about. Now, it's really late and I kind of want to get some rest, so I'll talk to you tomorrow. I love you."
"I love you too Suga," Daichi said, the smile audible in his voice. I hung up and went back into the room to find Oikawa waiting patiently for me to return.
"So... Is everything okay?"
"Everything's okay," smiled reassuringly at Oikawa. He seemed genuinely worried about me. "Don't worry." He smiled softly as I made my way to my bed and laid down. "Try to get some sleep, we've got a long day tomorrow."
Oikawa nodded and turned off the lights. "Good night Suga," he whispered.
"Good night Oikawa," I whispered back and soon enough we were both off in our own little dream worlds.
I woke up the next morning to the smell of bacon and coffee. I stretched my arms slowly before making my way out to the kitchen. I sat at the table as I watched Oikawa finish up. He turned around and smiled as he brought over a plate of bacon and eggs, along with a small mug of coffee. I smiled back. "I didn't know you could cook."
"It's bacon and eggs, I'd hardly call that cooking," he laughed softly. "But don't expect this every morning."
I laughed softly and started to eat slowly. "Don't worry, I'll make sure to do my part. Besides, I love cooking, so it'll be fun. Thanks for this though."
The both of us ate and got ready for our orientation. As much as we were excited to get to know our other classmates and explore the school, the main thing on both of our minds was at the end of the day. Volleyball tryouts. Oikawa looked up at me and smiled. "So, if you're going to be my new setter, we're going to need to do some practicing."
I checked my watched and smirked, knowing that this was probably his plan all along. I put on my shoes as quickly as possible and followed Oikawa out and down to the court. He tossed a ball up to me and I set it up comfortably for him. His hit was solid, but it didn't have the same power that Oikawa's spikes would normally have.
"Suga, you're a good setter, but I think you need to be more precise about it. Tobio has a gift for setting, but he needs to learn how to be a little less selfish. That's why I'm glad he has the orange-haired squirt. They work well together. You and I need to find a right combination."
Oikawa and I worked up until the very last minute. By the end of our session, we were comfortable with each other's playing styles, and even though it wasn't perfect, we could work together. He wasn't Daichi, but he definitely knew how to bring a team together. Maybe working with Oikawa wasn't such a bad thing after all.
(Not a super long chapter but I hope you all are enjoying it so far. Sorry if this chapter was a little slow, just kind of needed this little filler to pick up from where we were and move the plot along. Love you all~)
