Chapter 25- Daniel's POV

After Fabian left to drop off Nora and Selena downtown, I decided to sit outside in back of his house and get stoned. I'm sitting in one of his lawn chairs as I inhale sharply and breathe out a cloud of smoke, instantly feeling better and way more relaxed than I did earlier. The sun beats down on my head and almost blinds me and I quickly slide my Ray Bans over my eyes again. I shift in my seat and think about how Anthony's doing back at home. There was no doubt in my mind that he was skipping his classes at the community college to go and make drugs with Luis in his basement. Anthony had already had his spring break a few weeks earlier than mine since the schedules were different for the colleges and high schools in the area, so he definitely should be in class right now. I'm still waiting for him to reply to my text asking him how everything's been. I check my phone again for about the billionth fucking time and he still hasn't responded. Sighing, I lean back in my chair a little more and take another hit from the joint.

Just forget about it, man. Just forget about everything.

I tell myself this over and over again in my head until the thoughts become so damn comforting that I almost doze off right there. That's when I hear the screen door opening behind me and I open my eyes.

Shit. Was that Fabian already? I didn't want him to see me smoking pot, especially after the conversation we had in his car. I hated sneaking around but he was asking for it. I'm about to get up out of my chair and find some clever way to hide the joint I'm holding in my hand when I see that the person who opened the door isn't Fabian. It's Alicia.

"Hey," she says almost shyly, stepping out onto the lawn and closing the screen door behind her.

"Hey," I reply, adjusting my sunglasses a little so I could get a better look at her. "What are you doing here?" I ask her politely, squinting through the glare of the hot sun.

"Sorry I can leave if you don't want to see me right now," she teases, her wavy black hair shining from the sun's rays.

"No, I don't want you to leave!" I laugh, "I just thought you had a family thing today. At least that's what you told me yesterday."

"I did, but it didn't last the whole day. I just went to church with them and then we had brunch afterwards," she explains.

"Ahh," I nod.

"Yeah, so anyway, mind if I sit out here with you?" She says, smiling at me.

"Yeah, of course. As you can tell I'm the only one who's here right now. Fabian just went to go pick up Nora and Selena in the city. I think they both went shopping or something," I say.

"Ok, that's fine," she says, sitting down in the chair next to me.

For a about a minute we sit in silence and I turn to look at her and notice that she's closing her eyes with her head resting against the back of her chair. She looks so peaceful that I don't feel like disturbing her by saying anything. She then opens her eyes, as if she knew I was staring at her.

"Sorry," I laugh, shifting my gaze to look out across the lawn into the neighbors that currently had a sprinkler running.

Alicia looks in the same direction and then looks back over at me, a mischievous grin on her face.

"What?" I ask her.

She narrows her eyes at me, and I can tell that she has an idea.

"I dare you to go on to the neighbor's lawn and run through their sprinkler," she giggles.

I sigh. "Well, I am pretty fucking hot right now," I admit, smiling over at her.

"Do it then," she urges.
