Chapter 43

I didn't tell anyone, but Monique that I left yesterday. I didn't want to make a big deal out of it and believe it or not, I was excited about going back home. Only because today is the day I find out if I can transfer schools. I go to a performing arts school and I was supposed to transfer sooner, but David, the dance teacher, insisted I wasn't doing well enough to do so. I'm gonna talk to the dean today because I'm getting nowhere with David.

"What can I do for you Ms. Smalls?" Mrs. Smith, the dean, asked.

"I want to know why I can't transfer schools because I know I've done everything I needed to do, but David keeps telling me that it's still not good enough."

"David told us you were no longer interested in transferring," she said with a strange expression.

"Why would he say that?"

"I'm not sure. He said you wanted to just finish here, but we figured he was lying since you were very persistent on leaving," she said.

I sat back in the chair trying to understand why David lied.

"You know, you can still transfer," Mrs. Smith said, "the school you were hoping to go to is still waiting for you, I believe."

"Yes. They already have all of your information, so there's nothing more you need from us. All you have to do is make the move," she said smiling.

"Thank you so much!"

I shook her hand and walked out of her office. I was so happy, but I'm still mad David lied, so I'm gonna go talk to him.

"David!" I said walking into the dance room.

"Hey Briana. What are you still doing here?" he asked.

"Why'd you lie to Smith?" I asked a little annoyed.

"What do you mean?"

"Don't play dumb, David. You told her I didn't wanna transfer again and then you told me I wasn't doing well enough to transfer. Why? You said I was your best student, so I'm confused."

"I didn't want you to leave," he said walking to me, "not only are you my best student, but I like you Bri."

Oh God.

He walked closer to me, grabbed my hands and kissed me.

"What are you doing?!" I asked pushing him away.

David was a little older than me and very attractive, but he's my teacher and that's just weird to me.

"I told you Bri, I like you," he said walking toward me again.

I started backing away from him, "David, you're my teacher."

"If you're leaving, I'm no longer your teacher and it doesn't matter."

"David, stop! I'm not interested and now you've made me uncomfortable. Goodbye."

I walked out of the room and when I got outside I ran to my car. I'm pretty disgusted right now, but I'm too happy to let that get to me.

I went to my parents house to tell them the good news, but I had a feeling they wouldn't be too happy.

"Ma! Daddy!"

"We're in here!" I heard my mom yell.

I went in the den and sat on the couch with them.

"What's up?" she asked.

"I talked to the dean today," I said.

"She said I can still transfer."

They both gave me tight hugs and they were surprisingly happy.

"When do you leave?" my dad asked.

"You should probably start packing. I can't believe you're moving to New York! You're gonna need to find a new job, a new doctor, new hair salon, a new church and Aunt Mattie and her daughter will keep an eye on you," my mom rambled.

I have some older relatives in New York and that's why my mom is so happy about me moving there. BUT, that's the exact reason I don't wanna move there.

"Ma! I'm not moving to New York," I said kinda quietly.

"Then you're going to Atlanta!" my dad said out of nowhere.

They both got happier and it was making me nauseous. I have relatives in Atlanta too and that's just not gonna work. My parents just want me to stay close and have people watch over me so I don't get into trouble.

"You'll be even closer and we can come visit more," my dad said. My eyes widened at that thought.

"I'm not moving to Atlanta either," I said shutting them up.

"Then where are you going?" my mom said confused.

"I'm moving to California..."
