"No," I say. "Please, no."
"Shut up!" Our captor yells.
"Please don't do this," Kyle begs.
"Quiet!" The murderer shouts. "No more talking!"
He walks over to Liv, pressing a knife to her neck. Tears fall down her cheeks. I take a deep breath and slowly move up onto my knees then balance on my toes. I spring up and tackle the man, knocking him sideways and saving Liv. The boys get up while Liv stays seated in shock. Kyle grabs a gun off the floor and loads it.
I awake with a scream. My heart is racing and I'm sweating.
"Mack, you're fine!" Liv yells. "It was just a dream."
Kyle runs in, sitting down next to me and wrapping his arms around me.
"It's okay," he whispers. "I'm here. I'm right here. It's okay."
I press my head to his chest and take a few deep breaths.
"You're okay," he says.
My mom hands me a bottle of water. I didn't even notice her come in. I pull off the cap and drink the contents.
"You guys can go back to bed," I say sheepishly, wiping the remaining tears off of my cheeks.
"Come lay with me," Kyle says. "I don't think you want to sleep alone after that anyway."
"I don't," I agree.
I follow Kyle to his room and lay down with him, his arms instantly pulling me up against him. I close my eyes and try to forget about my nightmare.
I open my eyes and feel Kyle's fingers delicately tracing shapes over my spine. I smile and move in closer to him.
"Good morning," he whispers.
"Hi," I say.
"God, you're beautiful," he shakes his head with a smile.
I can't help but grin as I lean in and kiss him.
There's a knock on the door and I turn to see Liv.
"Breakfast is ready," she tells us before going back down the hall.
Kyle and I get up and walk to the kitchen. The smell of bacon hits my nose. I look over and find eggs and strawberries in bowls on the table as well. I make a plate for myself and sit on the couch beside Danny.
"You woke me up with your screaming," he groans.
"My apologies," I roll my eyes. "This isn't exactly a normal situation."
"Yeah, well, you're the only one having nightmares from it," he growls. "Grow up."
I lift myself off of the couch and eat in the kitchen. I grab my phone and see a text from Natalie. I never thought I'd see the day that Natalie would ask me for help.
"Kyle!" I call.
"What?" He shouts back.
"Come here," I shake my head.
He walks in and steals one of my strawberries. I show him the text from Natalie.
"Do you think she just wants to see you?" I ask.
"Maybe," he says. "But with what's going on, I'd answer her just in case."
I tell her to meet me at a coffee shop at noon and she agrees.
Kyle fills in the others.
"You're planning to go by yourself?" Liv asks. "What if it's a trap? What if she's the killer?"
