“Because, dear, I want Eros to suffer, now there are two persons he has to protect – Psyche… and you. If you die, Psyche dies. If I kill Psyche first, you live, and he’ll have you as a reminder on as to how he failed the person he loved. Perfect, isn’t it?”

Why does cupid never grow up? It symbolizes that love never grows old. Why does he throws arrow to the heart? To remind that true love hurts.

“You’re joking.”

Death gave out a loud laugh. “You think so?”

How could that be? So in the end, I was just an instrument to be used. A pawn. Had that been really my fate from the beginning?

If so, then I don’t know what I’m doing anymore. I didn’t want to be a part of their world. I just wanted to live a normal life. I wanted to survive Senior Year, enter college applications, find a good job, fall in love, and have a family. A simple, but happy life. And yet, these things wouldn’t leave me alone. How should one feel when they were supposed to die weeks before?

Turning around to Death, I gripped the edge of his cloak. “Why do you hate Eros so much?”

“There are a lot of things you are yet to learn.” Thanatos breathed in my ear, “Eros is playing a dangerous game.”

“What game?” I pulled away from him, his dark essence surrounding me.

Thanatos slammed me back and held my hand before kissing my palm. “Why, the game of love of course. That’s the thing about it, he never learns.”

“Why can’t you just answer me directly?” I screamed out loud. I was done with their poetry quotes and whatsoever. Why did they have to give clues? Why can’t they simply give me a straight answer? It wasn’t fun at all. It was frustrating me to the end.

Suddenly, Thanatos gave out a rich, ringing deep laugh. “Looks like he’s here, I’ll see you around, Cytherea.” He then disappeared.

The fluorescent lights finally gave a stable lighting. The air was no longer cold. Everything seemed back to normal and it all rushed into me like a breath. But, I was different. My legs were trembling and I was shaking terribly bad. I thought I was going to die. When I was with Thanatos, all I could feel was death. It feels like someone looking into my soul, as if it was going to be reaped out of my body. Just as I sat down on the cold marble floor, the door banged open, revealing Eros.

“Why are you here?” Eros demanded, walking inside the girl’s bathroom as if that was normal for him.

“I- I don’t know,” I croaked out, slumping my back to the wall.

He sighed and must have seen my messed up face because the next thing I knew, he was sitting across me. “What happened? I sensed something dark in here so I followed the trail.”

“Nothing.”
