jimin opened his eyes to bright sunlight streaming in through the sheer curtains. frowning, he furrowed his eyebrows as he looked around. the alarm clock on the bedside table read 8:34 am. there was a desk in the corner with a mini fridge underneath. it didn't take him long to figure out that this wasn't his and jungkook's bedroom.

all of a sudden, memory flooded back into his head and jimin remembered where he was, why he was in a hotel room. jungkook had taken him on a trip to jeju, to lift his spirits.

jimin rolled over, away from the window and towards the wall. a small smile crept up onto his lips when he saw his boyfriend, fast asleep and snoring, beside him. one of jungkook's arms was outstretched and jimin realized they'd probably been cuddling but jimin moved and jungkook's arm fell.

jimin laid there, smiling softly as he stared at the wonder that was his boyfriend. jungkook always told him endless times how beautiful he was, but jimin felt saddened that he never did the same for the younger. and it was true: the way jungkook's smooth tan skin glowed even in darkness, how his slight overbite made him resemble a bunny when he smiled, jimin could go on for hours about how gorgeous his boyfriend was.

jungkook groaned in his sleep, stirring slightly and unconsciously reaching out for jimin and pulling him closer. jimin smiled, burrowing his face into his boyfriend's warm chest and peppering the bare skin with soft kisses. the tickling sensation was what woke jungkook, the younger chuckling quietly when he saw jimin cuddled into him.

"good morning beautiful," he murmured as he sat up, and jimin looked up, eyes bright and wide smile stretching across his face.

"hi," the older whispered, blushing. "did i wake you?"

jungkook grinned, pulling his boyfriend back down to embrace. "i don't ever wanna wake up any other way than by you kissing me, hyung."

they lay there, content in each other's embrace for what felt like hours. it was as if nothing had happened; there was no pain, no suffering, and they were happy, in that moment. just the two of them.

but reality came to them then, in the form of a terrible coughing fit. jimin suddenly sat up, pushing away from jungkook and out of his arms, to sit on the edge of the bed, bent over, his chest burning with pain as he was unable to stop coughing. jungkook sat up and moved to sit next to him, rubbing his hand on the older's back. tears began to stream down his cheek, without him realizing, at the sight of the love of his life suffering.

when the coughing had subsided a bit, and jimin could catch his breath, he looked up at the younger. "kookie..." he said hoarsely, "why are... why are you crying?"

jungkook's free hand immediately went up to touch his face, his fingers coming away wet with salty tears. "i didn't realize," he said honestly.

jimin stared at him, brown eyes sad. "but why?" his small hand reached out to grab onto jungkook's, and he intertwined their fingers.

"because, hyung, it kills me that i can't do anything while you're in pain. you're suffering so badly and i can't help you. i feel useless," jungkook confessed, looking down.

jimin's other hand reached up to caress the younger's face, wiping away a few tears. his arms slid around the taller's waist, hugging jungkook tightly as he could.

jimin held onto him, just comforting his boyfriend as he cried. it was a role reversal, as usually it was jungkook comforting jimin. but jungkook had been strong for so long, pushing away his own pains and hurt to focus on jimin's, that he couldn't hold it in anymore. he couldn't pretend anymore that he was okay when the love of his life was dying in front of his eyes. he couldn't smile anymore knowing that jimin would be gone in a matter of days. he couldn't imagine life without his boyfriend of three years, and didn't want to.
