Luke's pov

I had to do everything I could to help her. After all, I partially did this to her. I can't let her pay for my mistakes. She thinks this is all her fault. But let's be honest. If I wouldn't have slept with Rachel that one time then she wouldn't have had a reason to not trust me and Rachel wouldn't have had the idea to write the letter.

I spent all my time with her. Every minute that I could. I tried to get her to walk but she wouldn't. She couldn't. She tried, but she couldn't even stand. I hated to see her like that. So, I tried harder. I tried to make her strong without making her stand. I wanted to try doing the difficult while making it easy. She did nothing to deserve this and I'm not gonna let her suffer.

One day, after school I went to her house. She was in bed, which I mean is the only place she really could be. She was laying there, sleeping like a baby. I sat by her bed, waiting for her to wake up. For a few seconds, nothing was going on. Then, I began to smell smoke. I didn't think much about it at first. But, then I saw it. I saw someone out her window wearing all black. Then, I saw black smoke creeping into her room.

"Lauren! Wake up! There's a fire!" I yelled. She won't wake up. "LAUREN?!" I began shaking her.

"Hmm?" She said, refusing to open her eyes.

"There's a fire!" I yelled. "Get up!"

She opened her eyes. "I can't get up. Did you forget that?"

"You're gonna have to try." I walked over to the other side of the room. I grabbed her wheelchair and brought it over to her side of the bed.

I could see it in her face she was struggling. So, I walked over there. I picked her up and put her in the wheelchair. See, now I completely forgot there were stairs. So, I rolled her to the stairs and realized I can't roll her down. I stood there for a second trying to figure what to do. I should have just carried her down the stairs, but my mind was going a million miles a minute, so the thought never came to my head.

"Go." I heard Lauren say.

"What?"

"Go. You can be saved. I can't.  Just go, Luke."

It took me a minute to process what she was saying. "Lauren, I'm not gonna leave you. The last time I did that, you got paralyzed."

"Luke. Go. I'll figure something out."

"Lauren, are you forgetting you can't walk? There's nothing you really can do."

"Well, you're gonna have to leave that to me. Go." She said.

See, now Lauren has this effect on me that makes me do whatever she asks me too. So, I left. I saw the fire right by the front door. Right when I walked out, I called the fire station. After I called, they were here in like five minutes. By then, the fire had probably spread about halfway through the house at least.

When they pulled up, three guys came out of the truck. One came up to me and started asking questions. He asked how the fire started, how long it's been in there, if there was anyone in the house. When I said Lauren is in there, he rushed in there, along with his two partners. Even though, one was already in there, putting out the fire.

About two minutes later, they all came outside. The fireman who talked to me when they got here, walked up to me.

"Sir, there was no one in there."

"I swear there's a girl in there. She was in a wheelchair, because she had just got in a car accident and she's paralyzed. There's no way she went anywhere."

"We can check again, but there was no one in there."

They went back in. They searched for about three minutes and came back out.

"There's no one in there." The fireman said.

"That's not possible."

Then, I looked up, and witnessed another miracle. I saw Lauren holding on to the side of the house, walking.
