Gray

44 17 32

Like his eyes,
the orphan's character was gray.
The debt of a roof over his head,
owned by his adoptive parents,
was paid back by hiding their crimes.

Exhausted
by his psychotic wife's love,
he erased the weapons
she had tainted
with innocent blood.

To save her,
he married another,
who was identical
to his wife,
except for her golden heart.

The race
between white and black
raged,
the light in his heart struggling
with the darkness in his mind.

Like the gray in his eyes,
his soul refused
to choose a side
and was colored
the same.
