the picture above is what I think self titled is
now, the following songs will go in order of me writing them and how I saw them while writing. these will be the full interpretations of how I see each song, based off of my stories
isle of flightless birds: so the format are journal entries from both tyler and josh, which both involve different meanings. tyler is lonely and has nobody. josh has too many people and bends to their peer pressure. josh does drugs because they say it's not that bad and then ends up overdosing on accident, but survives. he makes sure not to do that again. but, tyler does not want to make friends and give in to the peer pressure and mold himself into society's rules. but, as a result he ends up killing himself because of the isolation.
isle of flightless birds is not giving in to what society wants and doing what you think is okay. don't follow the same rituals everybody else is doing and focus on making your own, whether that have a good or bad outcome. because, sometimes it doesn't work out how you want it to.
also, the date tyler died is the date self titled was released.
trapdoor: trapdoor is held in a second person point of view, and the two people are unknown, they're up to you to decide and create. the man's mask chips away through all the days of continuous faking. of being something or somebody you're not. and finally, the mask disintegrates completely but it's far too late now because he took his own life. he was tired of faking, and as a result had to end what he thought wasn't worth fighting for. the "nobody" sign showed that yes, he was nothing. he was nothing to everybody, including himself.
this song is about altering yourself to match the smiles of everybody else, of faking to be happy just to meet everybody else's standards. and although the people around you don't relate to you as anybody, you still do it any way. and as a result, taking what had no meaning to you.
johnny boy: in this story, it's a normal third person point of view with tyler being the main character, along with josh and jenna. tyler and josh are in a type of relationship that's deeper than friends with benefits, and tyler finds himself to fall in love with him. jenna figured out eventually and then tyler is kicked out and heads to josh's house.
this song is about how a man gets thrown down because of who he loves and how he's expected to live, but he just doesn't feel like it's right. he doesn't feel like it's how he's supposed to be. he's willing to push past the people who spit at him to get to who he loves and what he thinks is okay for him. it's about him getting up and going for what is right to him and keeping it that way.
the pantaloon: this story takes place with a third person point of view, josh being the main character. so he goes to tyler's house because he hadnt seen him in a long time and finds a tape and cassette player. he plays it and finds out what happened to tyler. what happens with tyler is that he gradually turned insane because of what he was forced to do, and suicide was the only way out.
this song's about how people follow in the past generation's footsteps and don't break away from that, they keep doing what they're "supposed to do" without any change. and as a result, it causes them to die just as their past generation did.
along with that, pantaloon in the song is referred to as being "a foolish and greedy character." think of that.
air catcher: the story takes place in a first person point of view, with characters that are oniminous, which means you can create them on your own. its about how this man is sucked in by this other figure and how he's trapped in their lies and negativity. but, he just can't escape from them,
