James, the clever bastard, is right. The machine worked. All it took, months of labor, a few favors, an obscene amount of power, and I ripped a hole in the universe. The other side droned, a deep heavy note that pierced my body and shook the walls. Through the hole I saw things I can't hope to understand. Seconds later, it snapped shut. The power terrifies me, but I must press on, must see this through. I'll be more careful moving forward.
