Then it Started to Rain

I could feel every drop, I pointed my face skywards as the rain washed my face, tingling as it toched me making a smile appear across my lips, a smile that could be seen. Out of all the things I thought I would do if I ever became human again, this was the best. It was my first touch, my first smile, and my first inhale of fresh air.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and as I looked around it took no time understand what they where trying to say. Not many of the people I have seen, in my long life, would appreciate the littest things like the rain that I missed oh so much while I was "asleep". I walked around giggling and spining in the rain like a giddy school girl not paying attention to much surrounding me. I stumbled into a girl I recognized as Liah Ellas, her face was cut with a swollen lip and a black eye. Her father did it, he always did. I was just about to go and set things straight when I remembered I couldn't. I felt hopeless unable to help the girl who hurt so bad, but I had to ignore her. So I gave her a sympathetic smile and walked on. I had to look on the bright side of things now or else I wouldn't enjoy what little time I had to live. I shook the nasty thoughts out of my head and continued forward.

I walked on quietly humming to myself while greeting people on the street as they passed,  a toothy grin over came me everytime I was ackknowledged. It was almost surreal, I just kept thinking " I am really here they can see me!"

While wondering what to do first I got a sharp pain in my stomach. My first thought was, " Brother, you sneaky bastard what did you do!". Then I realized no food has passed my lips since the begining of mankind "Duh!", and with each second the pain in my stomach grew stronger and noises started to emit from it. If I was watching myself right now it would have been very comical. Watching a girl hold her stomach while making suprised faces each time her stomach growled. Seeing as I wasn't watching myself though,  I was not amused.

My brain then began to try and tell me that my energy source needed to be replenished. It was like someone was yelling the word food over and over again while flashing pictures of all the different dishes I've seen throughout my immortal life in my mind.

Considering my circumstances I has a few options; one I could beg for food, two go to a food pantry or homeless shelter to be fed, or I could steal. I looked around as I thought through my limited options.

I was starving with no place to go, and that when it hit me. Literally an older gentleman around the age of 65 slammed right into me. We both fell along with the small amount of groveries he was holding. I quickly got up to help the man stand. He smiled as me, " Sorry didn't see ya there young lady." I nodded and help him pick up his stuff. I saw a cane on the ground near by picking it up I noticed what must have only been a slight limp before become more pronounced as he hobbled over to take it from my.

I felt bad i possible just injured this man and made it even more difficult for him to walk, way to go clutz.

" I so sorry sir I wasn't paying attention, here let me help you take your groceries home are you walking or planning on catching a bus or cab?'

" Honey I haven't taken a cab since I was 45, I walk it helps with the artheritis in my leg and the metal plate in my knee." he began to walk for so I followed holding out my hands as he handed me the groceries.

" Do you live close by then?" I asked while finally taking in my surroundings. I was in New York City in a little section that reminded me of a little greek village. He pointed to an off-white building that might have been starch white when it was made, but has gotten dirty with time. It hummed with life as people walked in and out busy with their days. We headed towards the building as he whistled a tune, I recognized it as an old greek song and began to hum along with him. He looked surprised at first, then just at the entrance of the building he stops to close his eyes.

" This song always brings me back."

With his simple statement he opened his eyes and walked into the building. As he looked back at me you could just see a hint of michief in his eyes. With a jingling of some key he sticks one into a door  and steps inside.

" Thank you dear for helping me if you could set those things on the counter there I would appreciate it, and have a nice day." The man walked away into another room with that I was about do leave when I noticed a jar with some money in it. With out really thinkiing i grabbed two twenties and left. I got out of that neighborhood and just aimlessly wondered in search of a resturant or any place that sold food. Soon I came upon a small convienient store an dheaded in, I bought chips candy ,hot dogs ,slurpees, anything I thought might taste good. I ended up spending half of the money.

Food in hand I found a near by bench took a drink and some chips out of the bag setting the rest on the floor by my feet. A girl around my age came and sat down next to me.

" Beautiful day isn't it" I tilted my head in aggreement. She glanced down at her watch.

" Whoops I better be one my way!". She seemed to a little to cheery for my taste but I didn't think much of it until i bent down to get more food out of the bag. It was gone, I looked all over for it glancing up at the girl who was about to turn the corner, by bag in hand. I started after her yelling for her to stop, she looked back and began to run as well. It was a high speeed chase through the streets of New York. I being the genius that I am stopped yelling and took a short cut to catch up with her. With me out of sight she slowed to a fast walked and headed into what looked like an abondoned warehouse. I stupidly followed her in.
