I woke up Friday morning to an empty bed. Considering the circumstances, Blake's parents had let me spend the night again, so we could be together before he left for the mission. The sheets next to me were cold, so he had been gone for a while. I sat up and rubbed the sleep from my eyes.
Standing from the bed, I adjusted the large t-shirt and boxers I had worn as pajamas, before leaving the room. I jogged down the stairs and over to the first floor office, hoping Blake hadn't already left yet. Going through the secret entrance, and using my code, I rushed down the hallways over to the main room.
Glancing quickly around the large room, I spotted Blake, already dressed as Obsidian, talking with his dad over by the Bugatti platform. I made my way over to the two of them, without either one noticing, as they were too deep in their conversation.
"Did you really think you would leave without saying good bye?" I asked, making my presence known.
"Kitty!" Blake walked over to me and pulled me in for a hug. "Of course not, I just didn't want to wake you up. Do you even realize how cute you look when you sleep?"
"You were watching me while I slept? Stalker much?" I joked with a smile.
"You were just too beautiful to look away from," his fingers caught a stray piece of hair that had fallen in front of my face and moved it behind my ear. His fingers lingered and softly stroked my cheek.
I felt myself blush as his gaze intensified. He slowly leaned down until our lips met. He held me close as his lips gently molded with mine. The kiss was different from our usual hunger filled kisses. This time it was more emotional and passionate. I could feel Blake's love for me pour into the kiss and I responded with just as much emotion.
When we pulled away, Blake nuzzled his nose into my neck and breathed in deeply, trying to take in my scent. "Blake, be careful," I whispered into his ear.
He pulled back enough to look into my eye. "I will. Try not to worry too much, sweetheart." His hand caressed my cheeks, before he pulled my face forward and kissed my forehead.
I gave him a small smile, "I'm afraid I can't make any promises on that."
"Blake, you should probably get going," Trey interrupted us. With a sigh, Blake nodded before turning his head back to face me.
He gave me an encouraging smile as his thumbs lightly caressed my cheek. "Stay safe, and be careful with your training."
"I will. I love you Blake."
"I love you, too. And remember, I'll be back before you know it." He leaned in to kiss me one last time before pulling away completely.
Turning around he spoke some brief words with his father before getting into the car. Trey and I stood next to each other and watched the car roar to life and speed out of the base.
"He'll be fine, Kitty," Trey gave my shoulder a quick pat before turning away and heading back to the house.
I sighed and stared down the runway that Obsidian's car had just disappeared through. I sincerely hope Trey was right. After a few more seconds, I turned around to head back to the house.
The next day all I could really do was lie around my house. Trey had called off the training session this weekend, since Blake was gone. I did a small workout just to keep my mind distracted, but that only lasted for about an hour before I got bored. I tried watching several movies, but never got into any of them enough to keep my interest and ended up turning it off before it ever finished.
I turned it to just regular TV, but didn't really watch. I just felt more comfortable with the white noise. It was at least a little better than just pure silence.
Out of my boredom and strong need for a distraction, I even started cleaning the house. I vacuumed every room in the house, dusted, washed all the dishes, and cleaned the bathrooms. The whole house was practically sparkling by the time I was done. At that point it was just passed 3 in the afternoon. Still had the rest of the day to do absolutely nothing.
Luckily I realized how hungry I was, and knew that would distract me for another few minutes at least. I prepared a small, quick meal of homemade mac and cheese. Scooping a hefty amount into a bowl, I walked back to the living room, where the TV was still playing.
Instead of the TV show I had it playing on, a news report was playing, with Breaking News written in bold letters up at the top. The female news anchor sat behind a desk explaining the current situation, concern lining her features. A separate video played on the top right hand corner of a helicopter's view some type of large building.
"We are showing you live feed of the situation here in Washington DC. It has been reported that there is a crisis at Lancer Maximum Penitentiary. We have not been informed of exactly what is going on, but witnesses have seen several different Super Heroes from around the country enter the facility. These heroes include Skater, Ares, Blaze, Black Falcon, Eris, Obsidian Light and the Jade Charmer. As we all know, Lancer Penitentiary is the highest security prison we have in this country. It houses several of the most dangerous criminal masterminds of the world."
I felt myself freeze as I watched the television screen. Blake was in there? Why didn't he tell me this? He was with the most dangerous criminals in the world. Don't you think that would be something your girlfriend would want to know?
The video continued to show the helicopter's view of the prison as they circled around the building. All of a sudden people started running out of the building. They appeared as little specks on the screen as they poured out of several doors from the building.
Nothing could have prepared me for what happened next. Different parts of the building began to explode. It looked as if several bombs had been planted throughout the entire building, and each blew up in a flurry of fire and shrapnel. Each explosion caused the building to become engulfed in a constantly growing amount of flames. Smoke poured out of the broken windows, as people still tried to flee from the building.
I didn't even feel the bowl of untouched food slip from my fingers and land on the floor; I just continued to stare blankly at the screen. When I saw the other superheroes appear on the screen, I felt a little hope rise inside of me and continued to look for the black and blue masked man. As more and more time went by without spotting him, I felt my heart drop into my stomach.
I don't know how much time had passed as I stood there, watching the scene unfold, but eventually they were able to get an interview from a prison guard that would tell them what was going on.
"We obtained some intel that the inmates were planning a possible breakout, so we asked for the help of several superheroes from around the nation. We had no idea that the inmates had formulated a plan of this magnitude. Eighteen bombs had been developed and planted all around the prison without our knowledge. An investigation will be started as soon as the building is put under stable conditions. The heroes tried their best to get everyone out in time, but unfortunately there were casualties. The number of deaths is unknown at this current time, but we do know that the famed superhero Obsidian Light is currently missing. We have reason to believe he had been in the maximum security sector of the prison, where a majority of the bombs were located and where a majority of the damage occurred. We can only hope that he is alright, as it will take several hours possibly even days before we can reach that part of the prison due to the severe amount of damage in that area. That is all I can say at this moment, we will try our best to keep you updated." With that, the guard walked off the screen and the video switched to a different news caster.
I felt hollow inside. Blake was missing? If he happened to be where they said he was that meant that the longer he remained missing, the slimmer his chances became for survival. Blake couldn't possibly be dead! Could he?
