Chapter Fifty Two: Another

"Uh oh," you say.

"What is it?" You hear on the other end of the phone before rushing into the bathroom.

You drop the phone on the floor and hunch over the toilet. You choke into the bowl for a minute before sitting back and leaning against the wall. You pick the phone up, hoping Tom's still there.

"I'm sorry," you say.

"Darling, don't be. Are you sure it's just the flu? You've been throwing up for six days."

"I'm sure it's nothing, but I've made a doctor's appointment for this afternoon."

"I wish I could come with you."

"I know, but I'll be okay. I'm sure everything is alright."

He sighs. "You're probably right. I'm still going to worry about you though."

"I know you will."

"When is your appointment?"

"At one."

"Can I call you back after that? I have a surprise for you, but it's not quite ready yet."

"Of course you can call. But, Tom?"

"What kind of surprise?"

He lets out a loud laugh. "I'm not telling! It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you."

"Just give me a hint?"

You growl, forcing another loud laugh from the other end of the phone.

"Fine. I love you."

"I love you, too. I'll call you later."

You hang up the phone and sigh before forcing yourself off the bathroom floor.

Another baby.

You just came home from the doctor with unexpected news. You're pregnant. You sit on the couch and think about everything. You're happy, but you wish Tom was with you. You want to see his reaction when you tell him. He's not supposed to be back for another two weeks, and you know that you shouldn't keep it from him for that long. As if right on cue, your phone rings.

"Hi, love," you say.

"Come to Los Angeles this weekend." Are the first words out of his mouth.

"Please say you'll come. I've already got tickets for you and William. I know you're free this weekend, so please come?"

You smile. "Of course we'll come."

He laughs happily and you feel like you're going to explode from excitement. Finally, after almost three weeks, you'll get to see your husband. This changes everything. I won't have to tell him about the baby over the phone.

"The flight leaves on Friday morning. Two days. Can be ready by then?"

"Of course."

"Good. So, darling, is everything alright? How was the hospital trip?" There's a nervous edge to his voice.

"Everything is fine. I'm just sick," you lie. "I'll be better by Friday."

He lets out a sigh of relief before rambling on about your trip.

The days creep by until it's finally Friday. You had boarded the plane hours ago, and you're finally making your way through LAX in search for your husband. You're disappointed when you see Luke waiting for you instead of Tom.
