My jaw dropped and I looked at Damien, who stood frozen, an unrecognizable look on his face. His fists clenched and unclenched over and over before he opened his mouth to speak.

"What?" He breathed out, his voice surprisingly steady for someone who just heard that his brother wasn't his brother. Raquel visibly swallowed and glanced at me before looking back at her son.

"Eli is not your brother." She said again and leaned back when Damien stalked forward towards her desk.

"And my father?" He asked. Raquel shook her head and Damien's dark eyes seemed to darken even more.

"Then who is my father? Huh? Am I someone's bastard child?" Damien growled. "Why did you bring me and Nadia here, make us thing we're fucking royalty when our father is probably some bum on the street that you opened your legs for?"

"Damien!" I sputtered out, surprised at the disrespectful way he was speaking to his mother. He threw me a murderous look, which rendered me silent, but his mother didn't seem phased at all.

"Your father is an evil man. I needed to get you and your sister away from him, or he was going to kill you both." Raquel explained and Damien scoffed at her explanation. "He didn't want you taking the throne away from him like he did to his father before him." My brows flew up and I watched Damien's forehead crinkle as he frowned.

"Throne?" He repeated and Raquel stood up slowly, walking around the table towards her son.

"Your father is King Damien Rinora III, of southern Lyonus." She said quietly, reaching her hand out to touch Damien. He flinched away from her as if her touched burned him, I could feel his conflicting emotions as if they were mine. "He has selfishly ruled for thousands of years and his people want his heir to take the throne. They want you, Damien."

He turned around so fast, I would've missed it if I had blinked.

"Stop pitying me!" He yelled in my direction, his dark eyes flashing.

"Wh-what?" I took a step back, his outburst making me feel on edge.

"I can-" Damien gestured to his body, a snarl forming on his lips. "-feel it." For some reason, my heart rate accelerated and I watched his eyes narrow before he turned back to his mother. "I don't want to be a fucking king and I sure as hell don't want a mate."

Raquel's face seemed to drop. "Damien, we talked about this-" she started, but he cut her off.

"Talked about it?" He asked incredulously. "You told me that the spell you did would guarantee that I wouldn't ever get a mate." I frowned, wondering why anyone would ever not want to have a mate. "You know what? Fuck it."

Without saying another word, or sparing me a glance, he turned around and stormed out, leaving me and Raquel staring at the door. There was brief silence in the room before I spoke.

"What prophecy were you talking about?" I asked curiously. Raquel sighed and walked behind of her desk, sitting down.

"There was a prophecy that spoke of a queen having two mates and that the moment she discovers it, she will be our savior from the nasty war." She explained. "But the war already happened and back then, you didn't even know about your second mate." She paused, her forehead creasing as she thought hard.

"What? What is it?"

Raquel swung her eyes to me and they were wide with realization. "Unless you found out that Damien was your second mate before my daughter took away your memories. That's why you were so desperate. It all makes sense now."
