❝my heart still hurts, and my bones still ache.❞
To most, Georgia was a pragmatic, stubborn, and annoyingly sarcastic demigod with a tendency to tell you things you needed to hear, versus what you wanted to hear. Sure, anyone could be threatened by someone who wielded a twenty-seven inch blade tinted gold from the hundreds of enemies she's had to endure, but Georgia wasn't a scary, or bad, person. At least once you got to know her.
At the age of nine, when she was first brought to camp, there had been nothing to fear. A four foot-tall kid with a heart bigger than anyone understands? Yeah, terrifying. But, as everyone does, Georgia learned of the sins of the world, and she began to understand the dangers those sins brought along with them. As you age, fears develop, your brain begins to understand and worry about things you couldn't have as a child. By no means was Georgia Juarez perfect. But there was good; there was always good. And Georgia hoped to be it, or at least be a part of it.
When the war came, luck did not follow her. Luck was a foreign ideal when it came to Georgia Juarez. In her sixteen years of existence, luck had dodged and run from her in every instance it could, and she'd never really minded it. Luck wasn't supposed to follow demigods. But in this situation, she suddenly begged for it. Irony, however, welcomed her with open arms. A son of Tyche, Marcus Greene, nearly killed her, taking her arm along as a souvenir.
That brought along fears of death.
The war never truly left her. She hid the fear with relentless training, sarcasm, and the steely calmness a daughter of Ares shouldn't of had. Act put together, and people would assume you were, right? She used to wonder why sons and daughters of Aphrodite were so obsessed with love and being perfect. Was love a facade for them? No. Love was in their blood, just like war was in hers. They didn't hide behind it, they chased it.
Unlike them, Georgia Juarez became imprisoned by her parentage.
And when she finds out that she was going to have to save Hera, and the damn world, she doesn't know if she wants to make it out alive. She's been through enough quests; retrieving lightening bolts, Golden Fleece, holding up the sky, navigating the Labyrinth, and fighting in a ruthless Titan War.
Because all wars bring death, and all wars bring pain, and all wars bring tragedy, but do all wars bring unwilling soldiers, and do all wars bring teenagers who don't understand why this was happening, again? Do all wars bring two opposing forces together to fight a greater evil?
But not all wars are violent.
Body and mind, always there, and always an internal conflict for the likes of Georgia May Juarez.
