Theo's POV
Dad and I were sitting down next to the hospital bed where Mom was. Dad kept staring at her. He was deep in thought. I don't tell Mom this enough, but I think she's really pretty. Suddenly, Dad hung his head down and screamed in frustration. I was too paralyzed with fear to try and help him. He kept mumbling "...it's my fault, it's my fault..."
"Dad?" I asked. "Yes, Theo?" he answered rather calmly. "What happened to Mom?" "I told you already. We were exploring, and it was raining. She got struck by lightning, and that's why she's here..." Dad answered. "But then how is it your fault?" I asked. "She kept saying that we should go back inside... I kept refusing, but when I agreed, that's when it was really pouring. If I had listened to her, nothing would be going wrong..."
After a while, there was a knock on the door. Uncle CJ and Ginger were waiting there. Ginger was holding flowers and a get well soon card. "How is she?" Uncle CJ asked. "Still comatose," Dad answered. "Hey, Ging," I said to the redhead sitting next to me. "Is... is Aunt Y/n gonna be okay?" the 8-year-old asked me. "I don't know, Ging. I have no idea what's going to happen to her..." I started to cry. Ginger hugged me tightly. I hugged him back. It felt really good. He ended up falling asleep, holding on to my shoulder.
"You know, Lukas, after you guys decided to save me, y/n treated me like a brother almost... this is absolutely awful..." Uncle CJ didn't say much else. "We're gonna go back to the house. Are you staying here or not?" he asked Dad. "I'll stay. Theo, are you going?" I nodded. I ended up carrying Ginger to Stone Manor. I set him down on the couch.
(Warning: GAYYYYYYY)
I watched Ginger to make sure he was okay when he slept. When he woke up, I made to leave the room. Ginger grabbed my shirt before I could go. "Don't leave... please," he said sleepily. I sat back down next to him. He held onto me tightly. "Aunt Y/n... I don't want her to die... she's... she's really nice to me, she makes sure I'm okay when my parents are out. If she dies... it'll be like a part of me dies with her..." he held on tighter. I didn't think he could've, but he did. "I'll be here for you, Ging. I promise," I said. He looked up at me with his innocent light blue eyes. "I guess you inherited some of your dad's albinism," I joked. "Shut up, Theo," he said. I laughed and lightly kissed his cheek before realizing it.
Ginger stared at me. I didn't say anything. "That was... because we're like cousins, right?" he asked. "Yeah," I answered. I wasn't sure if it was true or not. All I knew was that I just screwed up my relationship with Ginger.
Within a couple weeks, Mom was out of the hospital. I don't remember much of what happened that day, except that everyone hugged her as tightly as possible, almost suffocating her. We were all in tears. We were happy that she was alive and well. But the thing I remember most is Ginger looking at me and smiling widely. Does he even remember what happened between us?
