{Scarlett's POV}

I groaned as my head pounded. My eyes fluttered open and I looked over to see a worried looking Elizabeth. "I had the weirdest dream." I croaked out and she cocked an eyebrow waiting for me to continue.

"I was mated... to the king." I whispered out the last part afraid someone would hear me and she looked at me amused.

"The king you say?" I nodded and closed my eyes for a second feeling very silly.

"Wait, why am I here?" I asked opening them again looking at her frantically.

"You fainted." A voice said startling me and I looked over to the doorway.

"You've got to be kidding me." I mumbled.

I noticed the small smirk that danced across his lips as he saw my state of shock.

"King Christian." I said trying to sit up and he quickly made his way to my side helping me sit up, sparks danced down my arm from our contact.

It wasn't a dream and I felt extremely embarrassed.

Mates. I, Scarlett Rose Madison, am mates with the king! Mates were the thing every wolf looked forward to when they became of age. The rumor is that The Moon Goddess, the woman us wolves worship, crafted each and every mate to be the perfect match for a wolf so none of her creations would be lonely. You were matched from birth.

"Please, call me Christian." His husky voiced floated through my ears calming me. His scent was almost overpowering, but I couldn't get enough of it. He indeed was my mate.

Elizabeth stood up, "I'll give you guys some privacy." She mumbled walking out.

"How are you feeling?" He asked as the door shut behind her.

"I'm okay. Just a little shocked I guess." He nodded in understanding and pulled over a chair next to the bed before replying. "I get that" It felt awkward as I looked everywhere but him.

"Well," he shifted uncomfortably in his seat. "Tomorrow you'll be coming back to my pack with me." He said breaking the silence and my eyes widened.

"Wait, what?" I couldn't leave with him! I barely know him.

"You're my mate what did you expect? I'm the king and the alpha of The Royals I can't leave them without an alpha for too long." He said slightly amused and I shook my head.

"I have family around here, plus I haven't even finished my community service! I barely know you too! No offense, your majes- I mean, Christian, but it just doesn't feel right to just up and leave with you tomorrow." I exclaimed a little out of breath and to my surprise he nodded in understanding. He seemed deep in thought for a moment then look back up to meet my intense gaze with his calm and collected one.

"How about this: Don't worry about your community service I'll take care of it, as for your family they can come and see you whenever you'd like. I would let them join the pack but you know you have to be born into it or mated to someone within. As for the hesitancy to leave with me, I understand and I'm not going to pressure you into something you do not want to do, but do consider that since our wolves have met, the bond has already started. They'll yearn for one another and you'll go into heat soon." He said and I instantly felt nervous again.

Heat was something every female wolf went through when meeting their mate. It was there to urge the mating process along, and until you mate you'll continue to have it.

"I just met you, before I met you I didn't even think mates actually existed. Mates were just a fairytale, a feel good story for little girls to cling to and dream about." I said the last part quietly, noticing the small rumble of a growl in his chest.
