Short Story 4 from We're Going To Make It

End JJ (JJP)

* in case it is not clear this one was written in the timeline when only JJ Project was first formed, after they had debuted. This is specifically during their Jinyoung and Jaebum's promotion period, back in 2012*

" Seriously. We are going to fight again?" Jaebum asked, running his hands through his miscoloured hair in frustration.

Jinyoung glared at him from underneath his cap, adjusting the rings on his fingers.

" You say that as if I want to argue all the time. I don't. It's just that you make everything so difficult!" Jinyoung raised his voice.

The tension in the room between the two teenagers was thick. Jaebum felt as though if he pulled out a knife right there and sliced through the air it would be visible. That was how heavy it was for them. He looked at his bristling group member, his only group member, who was waiting for him to retaliate, because Jinyoung knew he would. And normally, that was what Jaebum would do. They would only wind up pissed at one another while forced to do their JJ Project promotions until the anger passed, with a lot of screaming and sometimes, even fighting.

Not today, though.

Jaebum was getting tired. This past month, their entire schedule had been full. They have had to travel from performance venue to the next, and then from one fan signing to the other. He felt like he barely even had any space to breathe. Jinyoung must feel the same, because he had been picking fights with Jaebum more often these past few days, over the smallest things. Jaebum knew Jinyoung. Normally, he would not be like this. Yes, he may be quick to get tempered, but not at this rate.

The entire JJ Project was taking its toil on them. And they were only teenagers, after all.

" Let's tell them then. That JJ is over," Jaebum said, rising to his feet.

He looked at Jinyoung, registering the shock on his face after hearing what he had said. And Jaebum wished he was joking, because both of them wanted to chase success so much, that JJ Project was basically a satisfying fruit of their labour, that whilst it was slowly killing them inside, neither wanted to let it go.

Jaebum felt that, being the older of the pair, he might as well try to set them both on the right course. JJ Project was too tiring for the two of them. They were waking up at crazy times in the mornings, perform or meet fans, then come back in at night for more training and rehearsals, have their online classes before they could sleep. It was a mystery how neither of them had fainted on a stage before, to be honest. They were just so worn out, plus the songs they were doing, were all so fast and active. They would not be able to last much longer.

" You want to- wait. I heard it right? You want to let JJ Project die?" Jinyoung whispered, eyes wide.

" Yes."

" The company may not take us back. We're going to be telling them that we're a failure, and unable to meet up with their expectations. Jaebum hyung! You must be insane. No. We cannot tell them. We worked so hard, to win that bloody audition, and you want to back out?" Jinyoung asked, his voice getting louder with every sentence.

Jaebum put up a hand to stop him from speaking any further.

" We are their best trainees. You know that. And since you're really smart, Jinyoung, you would know that JJ Project is not good for both of our health," Jaebum spoke slowly, wanting to make sure that Jinyoung understood what he was saying before moving on," What I'm proposing is that we join the potential boy group JYP wants. Stop JJ."

All the earlier anger within Jinyoung had disappeared, a lost look filling his eyes. Jaebum could literally see his internal struggle. He had gone through the same thing for so many nights, where it left him more drained than before, and he understood why Jinyoung was hesitating. Jaebum knew that this was right though.

Both of them loved JJ Project. It had garnered quite a respectable amount of fans and audience, for idols of their age. And sometimes, when they could actually work together, it could be fun. Filming the project diaries, dancing together on stage, meeting the fans. It was great. And Jaebum loved all of that, he was sure that Jinyoung did too. But they had to let it go. All the arguing, fighting... It would not be long before the company pulled them apart and dismantled JJ Project themselves.

JJ Project is their baby. And Jaebum would rather they take it down themselves than to have someone force it out of their hands.

" But we have to leave all the fans. And the performances," Jinyoung mumbled, when he could finally get words out.

" Yes, we will. We'll stop after this round of performances and songs. No more. We can be happier. Being an idol doesn't have to be so tiring and draining," Jaebum reasoned.

Jinyoung brought his eyes up from where they were, locked on a crack in the floor of the dance studio. He watched as he gulped, before blinking tears away. Jinyoung ran a hand through his hair, lowering his head.

" Okay then. End JJ."
