Chapter Twenty

"Good evening Red River Pack!" I say into the microphone.

"It is my pleasure to announce that Beta Lance and myself will be leaving two days from now. All of you have trained tremendously hard over these past few months. You've came a long way since the first day Beta Lance and I got here. And as a former Pack member of Red River, I feel as though you all are stronger than you have been in previous years. If Alpha Alexander and Beta Johnathon continue to enforce the schedule we have set up, you all should continue to be this strong for years to come. Feel proud of yourselves. Give yourself's a pat on the back." I say clearly.

Everyone erupts into cheers and claps.

"We owe a great deal to Alpha A and Beta Lance from Dark Moon Pack. Leaving their pack to come to ours to train ours. Beta John and myself will be enforcing the the training schedule. I just want to say that on behalf of Beta John and I, we are both proud of everything you all have accomplished." Alexander announces, causing more cheers and claps to erupt.

I smile slightly and clap. I glance at the promise ring Lance bought for me and gave to me on our last date that marked six months of dating. A simple ring on my ring finger on my left hand. A sliver banner that has a lose knot in the middle. It's perfect.

"So you're leaving soon." Mom says looking sad.

"Yea. I have to get back, mom." I reply softly, taking both of her hands into mine.

"Will you be able to come back and visit?"

"I don't know, mom."

"Will you keep in touch at least?" She questions, her eyes finally meeting mine.

"I can't make any promises. But I'll do my best to do what I can." I reply.

"Your father and I are so proud of the young lady you are. We couldn't be prouder, my dear." Mom says before bringing me in a hug.

"Thank you, mom. I'll spend the morning with you and dad and I John. The rest of the day I'll be spending it with Ella." I whisper to her.

"Sounds lovely, sweetheart. Until tomorrow." Mom comments before walking away.

"I am so glad to be back at Dark Moon." I say as plop down on the couch.

"You don't miss Red River?" Lance questions, moving me so that my head rests in his lap.

"I know I grew up there and everything, but I never felt exactly whole there. Here, I feel at home here. I miss my parents and brother mostly. I miss Ella but not as much as I once did. We aren't as close as we use to be and we'll never be that close again. But other than that, I don't miss Red River. I am happy here." I reply.

"I am glad." Lance comments.

I sit up and lock eyes with him.

"I am too, Lance." I reply before placing my lips on his.

"Would you ever want to go back to Red River?"

"I don't know honestly. I wouldn't mind seeing my brother or parents every now and then. I guess I would go back for visiting. But I wouldn't want to go to Red River just for fun. There would have to be a reason for the visit."

"What's with all these question about Red River, Lance? The last time you asked me all these sorts of questions was when we first met." I comment, furrowing my eyebrows.

"I was just curious to see if anything has changed." Lance replies with a simple shrug of the shoulders.

"I love you, Aubrey." Lance tells me sincerely.

"I love you too, Lance." I reply before he places his lips on mine.

"I can't believe that we've been back for six months." I comment as Lance walks over to me.

"I know. Time has flown by." Lance replies.

"But more importantly, we've been together for a little over a year now."

"Now it seems longer." Lance agrees.

"Yea." I reply with a smile, as I glance down at my promise ring. "Thanks for taking me out tonight. I love this place. It feels like forever since we've left the grounds. It's nice to get away."

"Isn't it? I would like to take you out on a holiday soon. That is, if you don't mind naturally." Lance says.

"That sounds lovely, Lance. Maybe one day here soon." I agree.

"Would you care to join me for a walk?" Lance says with a smile, holding out his hand.

"Of course." I say, taking his hand.

"You look more stunning than usual, Aubrey." Lance comments as we stop in the middle of the bridge.

I smile and look down. I am wearing a deep purple strapless dress paired with black heels. I left my hair straight and natural.

"Thank you, Lance. You look sharp yourself." I comment, admiring his fitted tuxedo.

I continue to gaze on the water. Watching the ripples in the water lit up by the sliver full moon.

"Lance is-"

"Aubrey Higgins." Lance says, kneeling before me, taking my left hand into both of his. "I knew from day one that I met you that the Moon Goddess herself gave me the second chance at having a mate. As we continued to get to know each other, the more I fell for you. Two years later and I finally got the guts to ask you out. I was beyond relieved that you actually accepted. Six months after that, I gave you a promise that I always intended on keeping. Six months later, I am here now, backing up that promise." Lance continues, reaching behind him and pulling out a small black box, which causes more tears to slip.

"Aubrey, I kneel before asking for you to be the one who I enter the next world with. To be the one who I grow old with. To become the mother of my pups. To be the one who I can proudly call my wife and my mate." Lance says, opening the box. "Aubrey Higgins, former Pack member of the Red River Pack and Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"

"Yes." I say nodding while I continue to cry.

Lance smiles one of the biggest smiles I've ever seen and slips the ring onto my ring finger on my left hand.

Lance stands up and wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me closer to him as I wrap my arms around his neck. I smile as more tears continue to slip.

Lance pulls back just enough to kiss me. A kiss full of passion and love. He takes his thumb and wipes my tears away once we pull back from the kiss.

"I love you, Aub."

"I love you too Lance. More than you could ever know."

I bring my hand up to examine the ring. It's a sliver banner with three diamonds in the middle. The two outside ones are black where the middle one is actually a diamond. It's perfect.

"Do you like it?" Lance asks, looking a little shy.

"Lance, it's honestly perfect. It's beautiful. Thank you so much." I say sincerely.

"Anything for my love." Lance replies, causing my smile to grow.

"You have to ask for my fathers permission." I state seriously.

"I already asked him. Six months ago. I asked him the day I gave you the promise ring. He accepted because he saw how happy I made you. He knows I was planning on giving you a promise ring and proposing to you." Lance replies, a proud smile on his face.

I have no words, instead, I go in for a kiss.
