Official Synopsis:

Wren isn't the easiest person.

Having been given a life of lemons she's decided to squeeze them in people's eyes. She's fought her way through life and survived on the scraps the world left behind. When she climbs onto a bus after another bad turn of events she turns up in Widows Creek, a place full in things that simply shouldn't exist.

Like werewolves with ice blue eyes that seem overly attached to her.

Yeah, things like that.

Review:

* Right off the bat, I'm intrigued. Wren is an interesting character in an interesting situation. It grabbed me from the start. Wren is not the typical beauty queen MFC. She has a mohawk, gages, and wears a lot of black. She's a strong kicka$s character, and that makes me love her.

* This is a story about abuse. Don't worry, the effects don't magically go away when she meets her mate. The story is about overcoming the trauma and stopping the abuse forever. It takes the length of the novel to get to a good place. Even then, Wren knows she will be dealing with the memories for the rest of her life. I thought the subject was handled very well, with sensitivity and realism.

* The MMC isn't an actual Alpha or an alpha-male, which is refreshing.

* The story follows the general werewolf lore: fated mates, alpha, beta, gamma, psychic link among the whole pack, full transition to wolf, wolfsbane, silver is deadly. Notable changes: females can be alphas, and being a werewolf is a genetic lottery – two werewolf parents do not automatically mean a werewolf child, and two human parents can produce a werewolf child.

* There are some sex scenes. I have found them very tasteful- not too much detail. And the author warns you at the start of the chapters where they occur.

* There is a sequel, Hex, but Duality does not end on a cliffhanger. Hex is about one of the secondary characters in Duality.

For my fellow grammar sticklers:

* Grammar mistakes get pretty bad. The biggest problem is missing words. Sometimes sentences don't make sense, but I could usually get what the author was trying to say or make an educated guess. The grammar issues probably would have sent me packing if the story didn't have me so interested. There were a lot of skips in the movie, but it didn't give me a headache.

* The timing threw me off a few times. It felt like Wren woke up in the morning, had a conversation, got in a fight, and suddenly it was nighttime, and she went back to bed without ever eating.

Official Synopsis:

Ruth is a witch. Due to a hectic mind her powers are getting out of control, so on the suggestion of a friend she decides to take a break. Using the home of an old friend Ruth finds solace in the wilderness from the nightmares that plague her nights and haunt her days. It's supposed to be stress free but when Ruth comes upon a half dead man in the woods things take a turn for bizarre. Not that she's not used to it. When you're a witch, little surprises you but with a werewolf in your home expect the unexpected. *A SEQUEL TO 'DUALITY'*

For my fellow grammar sticklers:

* This had the same grammar problems as the first book.

* It also had the same timing problems. In the beginning, we never see Ruth feed the starving Brandon or give him water.
